Welcome to Chonkychowhaus! We are a little family of 4 - 2 hoomans 👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻 and our 2 masters (Tido 🐈 & Anya 🐈‍⬛). This is our first home and since moving in in Nov last year, we have been slowly furnishing/changing things around to suit our lifestyle. There isn't a specific theme to the interior but we prioritise making the space cosy, fun and reflecting our personality.

Our home is a 4rm hdb resale in Boon Keng. We liked the space for its airiness, brightness and squarish layout. We were also lucky to land the unit with no COV considering we bought it during the covid property mania!

There were several layout changes made to open up the space. These include: 1) Hacking the wall between the mbr and bedroom 2 to create a bigger mbr, 2) Purchasing the recess area outside our unit. This was also the most notable change which provided us with additional space to create an entryway, as well as open up the kitchen area to be bigger and brighter. 3) The additional space from the recess area also allowed us to relocate the storeroom (Originally in the living room and directly opp our mbr entrance) to free up more space in the living area.

Originally the recess area of our unit, we hacked the walls and built windows to create an entryway to our home. To make it welcoming and vibrant, we opted for patterned tiles to add color and also separate the space from the kitchen. The pink shoe cabinet was a chance find from Taobao which we thought complemented the tiles. Moving forward, the plan is to accessorise the wall with more art/knick-knacks to make the space more cheery!

To make it more visually interesting, we incorporated a variety of textures and colors, including light wood laminates, fluted glass panels, as well as white marble sintered stone for our countertop and backsplash. P.S. this is also our fat master's fav area to hang out as it's the food prep area 😺

Our kitchen carpentry is bathed in a lime green shade - a color we knew we wanted as soon as we saw it. This niche has been very useful for organising our kitchen appliances while still allowing easy access.

The common toilet is located next to the kitchen. Continuing our streak of patterned tiles, we selected these geometric terracota tiles for the floor and matched it with a neutral textured grey wall tiles.

As the toilet is really small, we installed a corner sink to save space. Found this cute scallop-edged one and paired it with a copper, vintage-looking tap (which was love at first sight for us!).

The male owner of the house is a Godzilla fan. Enough said.

Peeking into our living room from the kitchen. The curved ceiling was part of the house's original structure and we were more than happy to keep it!

In the living room, what used to be our main door & entrance (the brown door) is now repurposed into a storeroom, utilising space from the recess area. As we enjoy thrifting, we are constantly on the lookout for interesting, value-for-money pieces for our home. A few items here (i.e. console, coffee table, bench) are our proud 'conquests'!

The dining space is right beside the living area. To draw some design parallels, we used the same patterned floor tiles we did for the entryway to create an accent floor. We also liked the idea of mismatched dining furniture, hence the combination of different colors, forms and textures for our table and chairs.

The other end of our dining table. This was a piece we bought while traveling in Hanoi for our 1st wedding anniversary. We look forward to adding more meaning pieces to this wall!

A place for us to rest and relax, we wanted our mbr to be more calming. Hence, we kept to more neutral colors and also selected furniture/laminates with darker wood tones.

As with the common bathroom, we also had to work around the limited space in our master bathroom. To allow more space for the shower and vanity area, we decided to relocate the sink out of the bathroom. The same bathroom floor tiles were used for the sink area to create the illusion of an extended bathroom and demarcated from the bedroom with a curved finished.

For the master bath, we opted for a neutral but warm palette with beige tiles, coupled with wooden and gold toilet accessories.
