Hello again, everyone! This week, we're sharing how we designed our three bathrooms to feel like cosy, calming retreats while ensuring our design choices align with our modern organic theme. Plus, we’ll let you in on a little bathroom debate we had (spoiler: it involves toilet bowls 😆), along with a bathroom rule you didn’t know you needed and a surprising detail we keep in our guest bathroom. Let’s dive in! 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀: • Guest Bathroom (Level 1): Located in the kitchen for guests’ use. • Master Bathroom (Level 2) • Common Bathroom (Level 2): Originally accessible from the hallway for both Common Bedrooms 2 & 3, we relocated the entrance into Bedroom 2, transforming it into an ensuite. Let's start with our master bathroom!
Our master bathroom features warm neutral tones with brown tiles and gold accents. We opted to box up and conceal the water and sewage pipes in all bathrooms for a sleeker, more streamlined look that keeps the bathrooms visually clean and polished. Inspired by the lush outdoor bathrooms in Bali villas we’ve stayed in, we adorned our master bathroom with faux greenery to bring in a refreshing, spa-like vibe—adding warmth and texture while maintaining a low-maintenance setup. We love how this subtle greenery softens the space and makes it feel more like a tropical retreat. We've introduced faux greenery into our other bathrooms as well, to add a touch of nature, preventing the spaces from feeling too cold or sterile. This simple addition makes the bathrooms feel more inviting and ties them in with the rest of our modern organic home. A feature we’re proud of in our master bathroom is the curved corner in the shower floor.
This subtle yet impactful design choice softens the space, creating a more fluid and organic feel while avoiding harsh angles that can disrupt visual harmony. To elevate this further, we selected wood-like tiles for the shower floor—distinct from the rest of the bathroom flooring—turning it into a standout feature. The warm tones and natural texture not only add depth but also enhance the spa-like ambiance! 𝗗𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 When it came to our shower screens, we knew one thing for sure—we wanted nothing to do with glass! Glass screens require constant maintenance, and dealing with soap scum, water stains, and streaks was just not something we wanted to add to our cleaning routine. We also weren’t keen on the half-wall, half-glass look. So instead, we opted for a fully tiled shower wall with a curved corner (for both our master and common bathroom), which blends seamlessly with the rest of the bathroom while keeping the shower area feeling open. A tiled shower wall is a better choice for us because it’s low-maintenance, durable, and visually cohesive with our design aesthetic.
𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲 We opted for a shower ledge instead of the usual built-in niches, and we’ve never looked back! A shower ledge offers more flexibility—it provides ample space for all our toiletries without the constraints of fixed shelving. It’s also much easier to clean. Plus, it creates a sleek, seamless look that blends effortlessly with the rest of the bathroom design.
Another advantage? A ledge allows for easy styling and reconfiguration. Need more space for new products? No problem. Want to switch up the arrangement? Super easy. Unlike niches, which are permanent and limit your storage options, a ledge adapts to your needs over time. It also eliminates the risk of poorly placed niches that are either too high, too low, or awkwardly positioned. For us, the shower ledge is the perfect balance of function and aesthetics—keeping our essentials within reach while maintaining a clean, uncluttered, and spa-like feel in our bathrooms!
Our master bathroom features an arched door with reeded glass—a design the missus have always dreamed of having. The reeded glass strikes the perfect balance between privacy and light filtration, allowing natural light to flow through while maintaining discretion. We love how this door adds texture and depth. Now let's look at our common bathroom!
The common bathroom takes on a cooler, modern feel with grey tiles and gunmetal fittings, giving it a sleek and understated elegance. Since this bathroom is used by two dudes, we opted for darker tones that are not only stylish but also more forgiving when it comes to everyday use and maintenance!
Even though it’s a more "masculine" toilet with cool grey tones and gunmetal accents that emphasise a strong, moody feel—the addition of faux greenery, like the bonsai on the sink vanity, adds a refreshing touch of warmth and life, softening the space and preventing it from feeling too stark or cold.
For our sink choices, we opted for top-mount sinks in curved shapes for both the master and common bathrooms because the organic, soft contours resonate with the overall design, offering both functional elegance and a visual softness that enhances the space.
The vanity cupboards in both our master and common bathrooms are customised with wood laminates that seamlessly match the bathroom colours. We used oval mirrors for all our bathrooms because their smooth, curved shape complements the soft, organic lines throughout our home, helping tie into our modern organic theme. Moving on to our guest bathroom at Level 1! The guest bathroom is located inside the kitchen, making it a convenient access from our dining area since we moved our dining space to the balcony area. This is the entrance of our guest bathroom - we requested for an arched doorway, in keeping with the arched details in our kitchen.
𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗗𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: The common and guest bathrooms have bi-fold louvered doors for space efficiency, but most importantly—the guest bathroom’s door has 0mm gaps, ensuring total privacy for visitors.
No gaps means any awkward 'sounds' from inside the bathroom cannot be heard by those that are outside, so guests can use the bathroom without feeling self-conscious! It's been tried and tested, so this 0mm No Gap door has been one of our best decisions! In our guest bathroom, we couldn't use a vanity cupboard due to space constraints. So instead, we chose a standing sink in a round shape to maintain the theme of soft corners, which adds a gentle, modern touch to the bathroom while cleverly concealing plumbing pipes for a clean, uncluttered look.
Our guest bathroom features warm neutral tones with brown tiles and brushed gold fittings and accents, seamlessly tying in with the brushed gold fixtures used in our kitchen for a cohesive and intentional design flow throughout our home.
As you can see, we use faux greenery in our guest bathroom as well!
We are big fans of hanging faux greenery on our showerhead pipes for a touch of nature, vibrancy, and texture—it instantly livens up the space, making it feel more inviting and less sterile, while also complementing our modern organic theme.
𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Here's a thoughtful touch in our guest bathroom: We keep a small box of supplies stocked with pantyliners and sanitary pads for female guests, available anytime they need!
You can never know when the unexpected will arrive, haha, so we wanted our female guests to not have to awkwardly ask around for supplies or go through the trouble of looking for us while we're entertaining. We thought it would be much more convenient for them to have everything they need on hand, ready whenever they need it—making their visit more convenient and comfortable, allowing them to feel at ease without any hassle. Also, a sign above the toilet bowl reads:"𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨." We’re firm believers in this hygienic rule—flushing with the lid open can spread bacteria and germs up to 6 feet away (yes, even onto toothbrushes and towels!). No compromise here—lids must be closed before flushing!
This sign ensures that even our guests are reminded to practice this simple but crucial habit, helping to maintain a cleaner environment for everyone. If you need more convincing, just Google "toilet plume effect"—you might find yourself enforcing this rule in your own home too! 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲! Remember the toilet debate we mentioned earlier? Well, you see, the Mr was totally against floating toilets because they reminded him of shopping malls, while the Mrs wanted sleek, cistern-less designs. Our compromise? These unique egg-shaped toilets from Starke - a modern, space-saving design that looks sculptural yet organic - which perfectly balance both our preferences.
The curved form softens the overall bathroom aesthetic while keeping things easy to clean. Plus, the minimalist design makes cleaning a breeze—no bulky cisterns or hard-to-reach corners, just a sleek, streamlined look that enhances both form and function.
𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝘆: 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 Proper ventilation in bathrooms is crucial for preventing mould growth, as it helps reduce humidity and moisture buildup, which are key contributors to mould formation. We’ve made sure to install ventilation fans in our bathrooms to maintain good airflow and keep the space dry. Additionally, we use a squeegee to wipe water off the floor after each shower, further minimising moisture retention and helping to prevent mould growth in the long run. These simple yet effective habits keep our bathrooms fresh and clean. Now that you've seen our bathrooms in their final form, it might be fun (or shocking, heh) to take a look at how they started! Let’s just say they were ahem unrecognisable—think outdated tiles, mismatched fittings, and a level of wear and tear that was... unsettling, to say the least. To put it bluntly, they were hideous and in desperate need of a complete overhaul. This is the master bathroom:

We kept the shower area and toilet bowl in their original position. We toyed with the idea of installing a bath tub, but decided against it in the end due to two reasons: 1. Form personal experience, on holidays when we booked villas or hotel rooms with bath tubs we don't even use them! 2. Friends that have bath tubs in their homes admitted to using it for 2-3 times only in a year! Now here's the common bathroom:

Looking back at those "before" photos makes us appreciate how far we’ve come in creating spaces that truly reflect our style and comfort.
