  • Modern Organic in Motion: From Vision to Vibe
Hello, everyone! So far, our posts have been focused on different sections of our home, from layout decisions to functional corners we love most. But in this post, we thought we’d share a little bit about our home theme and how it became the guiding thread that ties everything together. Come along as we take a step back to reflect on how we found our style, and how it all came to life, one piece at a time! When we first started designing our space, we knew one thing for sure: we didn’t just want it to look “nice”, we wanted it to 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 like home. As we set out to find the perfect home style, we gravitated toward a look that would bring nature indoors, prioritise comfort, and still look effortlessly stylish. A mix of clean lines, earthy tones, natural textures, and a whole lot of greenery (faux ones included, no shame there!).

That’s how we landed on modern organic - a style that blends minimalism with warmth, natural elements, and a sense of calm. We were drawn to the modern organic look quite instinctively. We both love clean lines and uncluttered spaces, but we also didn’t want our home to feel too stark or sterile. Modern organic struck that perfect balance! Think muted colours…soft textures…plenty of nature-inspired elements…and minimal clutter. We also leaned into curves and soft lines throughout the home, from our arched doorways and windows, to the gentle curve of our stairs’ timber handrail, a subtle curved inlay strip where the vinyl flooring meets the kitchen tiles, and even the curved wooden frame detailing on our kitchen glass panels.

Our balcony-turned-dining area gets flooded with natural light thanks to the full-height windows, and that instantly gave the space a bright, open feel...a perfect match for the modern organic look we were going for! The space is dressed in neutral tones, soft upholstered chairs, and a dining table + bench with organic curves, and a mix of textures to make it feel cosy but not cluttered. The big leafy greens (some real, some faux!) and the textured wall piece help bring in those nature-inspired touches we love. It’s calm, inviting, and just a really nice spot to sit down for a meal or a slow morning coffee. ♡

Once we had a rough idea of the look we were going for, Pinterest and Instagram became our best friends. We saved tons of inspiration featuring wood accents, clean lines, soft fabrics, and biophilic elements…anything with a touch of nature! It definitely took more time and energy to shop for the perfect pieces, it allowed us to curate the space slowly and make it feel like ours. For example, the console area at the foot of the stairs is the first thing you see when you walk in, so we wanted it to set the tone for the whole house. We picked a simple wooden table and just had fun styling it with pieces we love. We have a mix of items from Singapore, JB, and Bali in this area! A mix of textured vases, some layered frames, candles, and little decorative bits that give that modern organic vibe we’re going for. We even snuck in a woven stool underneath for some extra texture. It’s such a small corner, but it makes us happy every time we see it — like a mini mood board for the rest of the home.

We’ve kept things pretty chill in the bedrooms and bathrooms too, sticking to that organic vibe. In the master bedroom, we went for neutral tones to keep it calming and simple. The seagrass pendant lamps on each side of the bed are one of our favourite touches because they’re not your typical pendant lamps! They’re kind of floppy and unstructured, with curved lines and a soft texture that just feels really laid-back and natural. We’ve also got a textured art piece (DIY!) above the bed and some cosy pillows in different textures to keep things comfy and inviting.

As for all our bathrooms, we’ve got faux greenery everywhere, too, just to bring a little bit of nature inside. It’s inspired by those Bali villas where the bathrooms are basically outside, and we love that little outdoor feeling it brings, even when we’re indoors!

Our style really shows up in the little details and the bigger picture. From the wooden dining table that ties the whole space together, to the roman blinds that let in soft, natural light, and all the faux greenery that just adds a little freshness to every room, it’s all been thought out. In the living room, we went with furniture that has curved lines and soft shapes to keep things feeling more organic. The goal was to create a space that feels peaceful and grounded. We brought wood tones into almost every room and balanced them with neutral fabrics and decor.

We stuck pretty close to the modern organic theme, but we also allowed ourselves some flexibility. A home’s got to feel lived in, right? While we kept the overall vibe neutral, we played around with different wood tones and textures. We also mixed in a few more contemporary or functional pieces when it made sense for our lifestyle.

There are some fun, personal touches here and there that break the 'rules' a bit, but that’s what makes the space feel like us. One great example of this is how we intentionally misaligned our TV console with the TV. It wasn’t by design at first 🤭 Here's the story!

Originally, we had custom-ordered a 2-metre console because we were planning on buying a 75” TV. But when we went TV shopping, we found an amazing deal on an 86” TV and decided to take the plunge, despite our worries about how it would look with the console. Sure enough, when the TV was installed, we realised the two pieces were the exact same length, and it just didn’t look right. It felt like the console was too small for the TV, and we were on the verge of committing an interior design faux pas! Rather than get stressed about it, we decided to turn it into an opportunity for creativity. We shifted the console more to one side and, to our surprise, absolutely loved how it looked! The asymmetry creates a little statement and adds some unexpected personality to the room. It made the space feel different, fresh, and unique. We realised that we don't have to be too rigid with rules and norms, and it's important that we gave ourselves permission to let our personalities shine through. That’s the beauty of the modern organic theme; it’s not about following strict design rules, but more about going with the flow, freedom in design (so things don’t have to match up perfectly), and being open to little imperfections that make a space feel more real, more lived in, and honestly, more you.

If you're thinking of trying this style in your own home, our advice is to stay flexible and trust your instincts. Modern organic isn’t about sticking to a strict formula but about creating a space that feels relaxed, personal, and natural. It’s all about blending natural textures like wood, stone, and textiles, and finding balance between soft, organic shapes and clean, minimal lines. Don’t be afraid to mix things up as you go and let the space evolve naturally. Adding touches like greenery, whether real or faux, brings life and freshness into any room, and natural lighting is key to making everything feel warm and welcoming. Also, think about your layout and how it flows because the way you arrange furniture and open up spaces can make a huge difference in how organic your home feels! The beauty of this style is that it allows room for flexibility and creativity, so don’t be afraid to experiment and make it your own!
