When we first moved in, our home was a pretty blank canvas. White kitchen cabinets, warm wood finishes, and lots of neutral tones. We intentionally kept the bigger elements timeless, knowing we could always layer in personality over time.
It's funny how the smallest decor pieces can completely change the feel of a space. A quirky vase, a playful ornament, or a colourful accessory might seem insignificant on its own, but together they add warmth, whimsy, and so much character.
LEGO sets are such a fun way to add a little character to your home.
We've completed two builds so far and are already planning to add more! They make great decor pieces while bringing a touch of playfulness to our otherwise neutral space.
It's a small detail, but it adds so much personality and reminds us that a home doesn't always have to feel so serious.
The right lamps can completely change the feel of a home.
We actually don't use our main overhead lights very much.
Most days, we rely on warm lamps instead because they make the space feel so much cosier and more inviting.
The big lights only come on when we're cleaning or trying to find something. The rest of the time, it's all about soft lighting and creating a home that feels warm to come back to.
A full-length mirror is one of the easiest ways to make a space feel bigger and brighter, especially in smaller homes.
We placed ours near the entryway, which has become the perfect spot for quick fit checks before heading out. It's practical, but it also helps open up the space visually.
Plants are one of my favourite ways to soften a space and bring a little warmth into the home. If you're not blessed with a green thumb (like me 😅), stick to easy-care varieties that don't need much attention.
I also love placing plants on items we already own, like a small stool. It's a great way to give everyday furniture another purpose while adding different heights and layers to your decor.
Never underestimate what textiles can do for a space. They're one of the easiest ways to make a home feel warm, cosy, and lived in.
Something as simple as choosing the right curtains, cushion covers, or throws can completely change the mood of a room. We love layering different textures with our cushion covers to add depth, while mixing in small pops of colour to bring a little more personality to our otherwise neutral home.
They're easy to switch out too, so you can refresh the look of your space without making any big changes.
Having a kid has definitely brought a lot more whimsy into our home.
Just look at this cute little toothbrushing station! It's installed at the perfect height for our toddler, giving her a space that's just for her. It makes brushing her teeth a little more fun while encouraging her to be more independent.
If you want to add a little more whimsy to your home, you can never go wrong with a pop of colour.
Most of our home is kept fairly neutral, so introducing a bold orange chair instantly brought more personality to the space. It also pairs beautifully with our blue rug. After all, orange and blue are complementary colours on the colour wheel!
Sometimes, all it takes is one colourful piece to make a room feel a little more fun and a lot more like you.
