During our house hunting journey, we had a rough idea of what we wanted, but many of the layout considerations only became apparent to us after we went for viewings. The more units we viewed, the more we found out about what we liked and disliked. After some time, we narrowed down a few key criteria that were important to us. Firstly, we wanted a living room with a square layout. This helps to make the living room look more open and spacious. Thirdly, we preferred a unit that could accommodate at least a semi-open concept kitchen, as this would help create a more spacious feel throughout the home. We also wanted to be able to have a dedicated service yard. With a glass door separating it from our kitchen, we won't need to keep our laundry whenever we cook. Lastly, we realised we preferred the master bathroom to be situated slightly further away from the bed. Any layouts where the bed would need to face the bathroom were quickly ruled out. Besides these layout considerations, we also considered other factors, such as 1) the direction of the house (north/ south facing for more wind and to avoid the west sun), 2) being on the mid to high floor (with a good view), 3) proximity to MRT and amenities, and 4) being within 30 mins aways from our parents' place to make visiting more convenient.
