HOME TOUR: Inside Our $40K Muji-Inspired 5-Room BTO
18690
Welcome to our home! When we first got our keys to this 5-room BTO, we knew we wanted something clean and calming—a Muji-inspired sanctuary with neutral tones, warm wood accents, and practical, clutter-free spaces. We designed every room to be bright, airy, and restful, but we’re especially proud of our dry pantry nook that blends perfectly into the dining space. Here’s a peek into how we brought our minimalist vision to life. Our living room is all about simplicity and softness. The neutral palette sets the tone right away: creamy walls, light-tiled floors, and big windows that flood the space with natural light. We chose a plush, textured white sofa with gentle curves that feels welcoming without being bulky. The single lounge chair keeps things flexible, perfect for reading by the window. For the TV area, we installed a slim, wall-mounted console with fluted wood details and a subtle underglow light strip—this keeps cables hidden while adding a warm accent at night. There’s no clutter, no heavy décor—just a tranquil space for us to unwind, host friends, or enjoy quiet evenings. This space is the heart of our home. We picked a solid 1.85m wood dining table with a raw, natural edge finish that gives it character without being fussy. Seating includes a simple bench and matching chairs with light grey cushions for understated comfort. But our pride and joy is the dry pantry nook—the custom cabinetry with that distinctive arched opening is both functional and beautiful. Here’s what makes it special: • Coffee station: Our espresso machine and water dispenser fit neatly within the arch, making it our daily ritual spot. • Integrated storage: Cabinets above and drawers below keep all the extra appliances and coffee gear hidden, preserving the clean look. • Warm lighting: An LED strip inside the arch adds a cozy glow, especially lovely in the mornings when we brew our first cup. We love how this area feels like its own little café corner while staying consistent with the overall minimalist design. We kept the kitchen design clean and ultra-functional. The galley layout gives us plenty of prep space on both sides without feeling cramped. We went with full-height cabinetry in a soft matte beige finish, paired with a seamless glass backsplash that reflects light and keeps everything looking bright and airy. Details we love: • Flush induction hob and undermount sink for a sleek, flat surface. • Handle-less cabinets to keep the look streamlined. • Integrated dishwasher to reduce visual clutter. • Warm under-cabinet lighting that softly glows in the evening. At the end of the kitchen, our service yard remains tucked out of sight but accessible—ideal for laundry days, with machines neatly lined up under the counter and plenty of sunlight from the windows. For the bedroom, we wanted a true retreat from the world. There’s no elaborate décor here—just one big window that brings in plenty of natural light, making the room feel open and calm. We kept the fan design minimalist too, with gentle wood-textured blades that tie back to the Muji-inspired aesthetic. Of course, there’s still a bit of personality—a plush alpaca soft toy by the bed adds a touch of whimsy without breaking the minimalist vibe. This little nook in the master bedroom has quietly become one of our favourite corners. We carved out a vanity/study alcove complete with an arched feature panel to echo the dry pantry design. The natural wood finish and soft curves make it feel inviting and personal. • Soft cove lighting built into the arch provides gentle, flattering illumination for getting ready. • The chair and built-in desk combo doubles as a workspace on slower mornings. • Overhead cabinets ensure this space remains clutter-free, storing skincare, tools, or journals out of sight. It’s a tiny space, but it feels like a luxury to have this private, calm corner just for yourself. Our bathrooms continue the minimalist theme with a focus on natural textures and concealed functionality. • A floating vanity adds to the lightness of the space and makes cleaning easier. • Wall-mounted storage and hooks in matte wood and black keep the look coordinated. • Soft LED lighting behind the mirror cabinet adds a subtle glow at night. Every surface is intentional, and we’ve designed it to be as easy to maintain as it is calming to look at. To keep the look uncluttered, we had the piping completely concealed, so what you see is just clean lines and warm tones. Throughout our home, we aimed for warm minimalism—neutral colours, natural textures, and thoughtful storage that makes everyday living feel lighter, calmer, and more intentional. From the fluted TV console to the clean-cut kitchen and that little dry pantry arch we love, every detail was designed to be both practical and beautiful. Designing our 5-room BTO was never just about aesthetics—it was about how we want to live. We wanted a space that feels lived-in, never cluttered. A quiet retreat from busy city life where we could slow down, share meals, savour coffee, and simply be. If you’re planning your own space, our biggest takeaway is this: design for how you live, not just how you want it to look. Calm comes from clarity—and that starts with hidden storage, clean sightlines, and little everyday rituals that bring joy. Thanks for following along on our Muji-inspired home journey ✨
