Cosy living in a 4-room creamy home with Japandi touches
Home Tour: Creamy 4-room HDB With Japandi Touches

Hellu there! We are a couple staying in a 4-room resale HDB (but it’s essentially a BTO size at 92 sqm). Our mood board started off with a strong Japandi influence but along the way, we found ourselves leaning towards creamy tones because of how airy, spacious and timeless it feels. The end product? Part Scandi, part minimalist, with touches of Japandi – we've decided to do away with smacking a label on our home design because what matters is that we love it. Here’s what we call home. Fun fact: we viewed over 20 units before deciding on our current home. A combination of different factors led us to pick this unit – from its squarish layout and location, to the existing/upcoming amenities around the area. Hacking was out of the question for us because we didn’t want to limit our pool of potential buyers in the future, so our layout remains untouched. This is the view that greets us every time we return home. The dining area was designed as a place for gatherings with loved ones – compact enough for when it’s just the two of us, but also flexible enough for hosting. We seldom dine here when it’s just the two of us though! I’m sure some couples can relate to this. One area of the house that we are obsessed with is our limewash wall. We love how it adds a touch of cosiness to the space, almost like a warm welcome home. It’s a bonus that limewash helps to improve the indoor air quality. And this is the other part of the house that we absolutely love. It’s hard not to when you have curves in all the right places here – from the mirror that serves both form and function for that final fit check before running out of the house, to the curved carpentry that creates a softer look for the entryway. Having an island was the dream, but the layout of our home made it difficult to have a sizeable one. This was why we kept the right side of our kitchen countertop more versatile and easily convertible. Need to bring out the bad boys in the kitchen to whip up a five-course meal? You’ve got it. Need more space to put a mini buffet? Say no more. We’ve got His and Hers study rooms, but the only built-in is the wardrobe for mine. The reason why we’ve decided to split up our home offices is so that we don’t disrupt each other when we are both working at home. This way, we also have our own space to retreat to when we need some me time. I also prefer to have my own space to get ready, which is why all my clothes are kept here. Here’s the guest bathroom. We’ve kept the wet area more open so that it’s easier for washing stuff. Apart from the circular mirror with a backlight that's just for show, the curved glass is also one of our favourite features here. Many would say the master bedroom is where the magic happens, but we say the true magic happens when you get enough sleep. The master bedroom was designed as a place for rest and recharge, so we decided to do away with any distractions. That means no TVs or projectors. And because we usually sleep with the aircon on, there are no fans too. The design of the house is kept pretty consistent throughout – that is, until you see the master bathroom. We wanted something that sets it apart from the guest bathroom, so we went for a different theme. Think darker resort-style bathrooms perfect for winding down after a long day out.
