  • A glimpse inside our cosy little nest, tucked away in the Northeast ✨
Hellooooo thanks for stopping by to check out our simple place! We’re the owners of @kohsyinthewoods - a 4 room BTO in the northeast region! During our search for IDs, we didn’t really have a fixed theme that we want but one thing that we emphasised was “bright”! Being someone who has some fear for darkness, I wanted my own place to be as bright as possible. As we progress with the renovation decisions, our home kinda followed a minimalist scandi theme!

Here’s the layout of our 4-room bto - pretty standard layout that you see across most BTO projects. The thing we liked about this layout is that we have 4-5 years to decide if we want an open or closed kitchen concept. It is good for us as we didn’t really know what we want back then when we had to select the unit.

Our view when we open the door! Love the fully flushed cabinet as it gives us lots of storage space to keep our living room clutter-free!

Another view of our living room - Decided to remove the original DB box and replaced it with a full height cabinet that covers the whole wall behind our wooden door. Also requested for a open niche for some simple display and a main display section so that we can put some family photos and baby mementos such as their hands/feet casts and taimaobi!

We also included tv console as part of our carpentry work so that it looks neater and safer for the kids!

The view of our living room when we walk out of our bedrooms! This is probably why carpentry is the main bulk of our renovation cost but no regrets!

After much discussion with our ID, we decided to go with a closed kitchen concept to keep our living room grease-free when we cook. Also, we agreed on a fixed glass panel instead of a foldable one for easier maintenance.

Following through the theme, we chose a similar laminate for the top cabinet as our living room’s. Many of our relatives were surprised to see a gas stove instead of an induction hob as most people seem to prefer induction hob these day. But MrK prefers gas stove so our chef gets to decide on this!

As the sink and gas stove took up most of the space on the other side, we decided to place most of the electrical appliances here. Instead of connecting the water pipes from our kitchen sink, we opted for the pipe to run from toilet to service yard so that we won’t have long ugly casing in the service yard. Thank you to the uncle who agreed to do that for us even though there’s a very small risk that we might drill into the water pipes/electrical cables!

An essential item for us as we can get cold water and hot water instantly! The 45 degree Celsius option is definitely a life saver for us as we’re able to prepare milk in the shortest time possible whenever our kid cries.

We contemplated if we should spend the money on boxing up the pipes but we figured that we won’t be spending much time here and most people won’t visit this area of the house. Hence we chose to leave the pipes as it is. One things that’s not captured in the photo is our automated laundry rack that we bought from taobao as we’re still in the midst of fixing it.

Our master bedroom! Decided on a king size bed as we co sleep with our kids! King size bed + baby cot is just nice for the 4 of us!

Our ID proposed a L-shaped wardrobe to maximise the space which we thought was a great idea as we’ll be able to have full access and view of our clothings! As we have 2 little ones, we topped up for a curve finishing to minimise the impact of injury if they were to run into our wardrobe while playing in future.

Our master bedroom toilet - we retained the original tiles as advised by our ID and the tiles looked nice too! We replaced the crates used for the box up area with acrylic panels ourselves so save some cost! It’s actually quite easy to diy, just need to do some measurements on your own! Dama Trading will quote based on the most optimal size of an acrylic sheet to purchase and help to cut it into the size that you want, which will be cheaper as compared to getting smaller pieces of acrylic sheets. There’s also more discount if you opt for self-collection!

Similar to our master bedroom toilet, we retained the tiles for common toilet as well!
