Here’s a first look into the 3D renders of our kitchen that our main con has sent us! We have chosen to go with an open kitchen concept to make the whole house feel more spacious, and our kitchen will consist of: wet kitchen, dry pantry and a kitchen island. 1️⃣ Wet kitchen: we are incorporating both top and bottom cabinets to ensure we have sufficient storage space, as we anticipate ourselves to be cooking rather regularly! We have also accounted for space to place our fridge, as well as a tall unit to place our microwave and oven! 2️⃣ Dry pantry: we are building a long dry pantry (2.4m) for extra storage, and also for more countertop space to place our water dispenser, coffee machine etc. For the dry pantry, we will not be putting any backsplash here which help to reduce the costs! There will also be a wooden plank (1.8m) which will be installed here, and this is custom made by our main contractor as we wanted the color to match the rest of our kitchen laminates. Otherwise, you can buy off-shelf ones to save costs too. 3️⃣ Kitchen island: we are also building a kitchen island (1.6m). Do note that the depth of an island is around D800-900mm (vs kitchen countertop which is typically around D600mm). Hence, the price of the carpentry and countertop material will be around 1.5x of the standard price for kitchen countertop. So do keep this in mind when you are considering a kitchen island! For the kitchen island, will also be incorporating cabinets/drawers for more storage! The laminate colors we have currently narrowed to are: Lamitak Salt Microcement and EDL Lorenza Walnut. We wanted an earthy tone, and liked the vibes of a darker wood color! We also wanted to highlight that the material of the kitchen countertop we chose is sintered stone, which is a more pricey option! Why did we opt for this? 1️⃣ Sintered stone is very easy to clean after cooking, and also highly resistant to scratches and heat 2️⃣ We didn’t like the shiny surface of quartz, and after viewing some samples of sintered stone - we loved it and the shades were exactly what we are looking for! 3️⃣ We compared to other materials like Kompacplus, and feel that the price difference is not TOO big. Of course it depends on the brand of the sintered stone material you choose; typically the European brands are significantly more expensive, but there are definitely other alternatives from Malaysia and China which you can consider! We also decided to use sintered stone for our backsplash! During the discussion with our main contractor, we had the option of using tempered glass, which for our kitchen dimensions, we were quoted $800 for tempered glass (vs $1200 for sintered stone). However, we felt that using the same material as our countertop will make the entire kitchen space more seamless, so we decided to pay more for it! This is only the first draft so there are some small changes we will be making after further discussion with our main con! But overall, for this relatively big kitchen space for our 5RM resale flat, our total costs of the kitchen came up to be around $11k, which we found quite reasonable! What are your thoughts? :-)
