Something a little less common we did was to not sleep in the MBR 👀
Looking at the common MBR layouts and space, it was almost impossible to fit a queen sized bed, a 6-door wardrobe along with a decent sized vanity with allowance for a standing clothes rack + laundry hamper (as we didn’t want to squeeze this in the toilet). Most of the layouts we’ve chanced upon with a bed and wardrobe only catered for 2-4 door wardrobes, which was too small and definitely not sufficient for us.
Considering our sleeping and waking habits, it was also a priority for us to have the ‘getting ready’ space separated from the sleeping space—not getting out of the shower freezing in aircon, not disturbing the sleeping person with loud hairdryer sounds, and not having to switch on lights in the same room one of us is sleeping in.
A built in wardrobe with connecting vanity table, my preference was to have the vanity at the window facing side for the most amount of natural light.
Our study desks on the opposite side of the wardrobe, sharing the MBR space with the wardrobe/ vanity to make the most out of the room. We also ensured the wardrobes are in closed doors design for a simple and clean look overall, avoiding any background inconveniences during potential zoom calls.
The vanity area is a simple built in tabletop with a drawer, where I added a standing table mirror myself (no drilling/ mounting required).
We did some open shelving next to the vanity which were mainly for commonly used hair tools, jewellery, skincare and miscellaneous stuffs. I was able to store all of my makeup in the drawer below with just customised drawer dividers from Taobao.
