The kitchen is our favourite place in our entire home! This area is something Francis is extremely particular about and initially I felt like he was being too fussy LOL. However, after moving in and cooking so many meals in the kitchen, I 10/10 would recommend a fussy francis when it comes to kitchen renovation.
Starting off with our kitchen hood! Francis first researched the various hood types (chimney, integrated, telescopic, slimline & inclined) based on different criteria like design, installation, etc. I genuinely find it hilarious that he has a 'wife proof' category, but I guess I've got to give it to him for being such a thoughtful husband hahaha.
After evaluating all the different options, he eventually narrowed it down to either a slimline or inclined hood.
His rationale for eliminating telescopic hoods is because he felt like it might be quite inconvenient to pull it out whenever you got to use it. As for chimney hood, he felt like it takes up too much space!
From there, he moved on to research different brands that carry these hood types!
He was initially eyeing one from fujioh (FR-SC2090-R-XBK) which was the hood that he had back in his parents place! But we found something else that caught our eyes! Read on to find out more :-)
Here are some other key considerations he kept in mind during his research!
The size of your hood matters too and should ideally be slightly wider than your stove for effective smoke/odour capture!
Also, did you know that there are 2 ventilation types for hoods - ducted and ductless?
Ductless hoods are what we see in most households now where air is filtered and recirculates back into the kitchen!
As for ducted, air is normally extracted and expelled elsewhere. There are restrictions on this ducting method but it's not entirely impossible. You can check out sgbetterhome on YouTube or instagram for some videos to see how it can be done!
We finally settled on this inclined hood from songcho!
What I really love about this hood:
1. Super (super super) strong suction power!
2. The intelligent sensor control panel - I initially thought this was just a gimmick, but it's turned out to be incredibly useful! You can switch it on/off and adjust suction power without touching the hood, which is perfect when your hands are oily or dirty from cooking.
3. Indeed wife proof: am proud of say that I haven't knocked my head even once, and I use this hood at least 5 times a week!
