Hello homeowners!
Welcome back to our latest post! This time, we're diving into the questions we get asked most often about our home. From design choices to specific materials, we're breaking down the practical decisions and design calls that shaped our home. Whether you're renovating, planning, or just curious, we hope these insights help you on your own home journey!
#4 and #10 have been total crowd favourites, right up there with the classic โWaitโฆ do you really have 11 doors?!
Letโs get down to it!
Yes, we ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐บ do! ๐ The name ๐ฎ๐๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ isnโt just a catchy titleโฆitโs an actual door count! And funny enough, this is hands down one of the questions we genuinely get asked the most. People just canโt believe itโฆ like, who has eleven doors in their home?!
Truth is, we didnโt plan it. It wasnโt some symbolic design choice nor were we on some mission to break a door record ๐ It just...turned out that way as the renovation unfolded! The layout evolved, practical needs kicked in, and somehowโฆ we ended up with two doors just in the kitchen alone (one leading to the living area, the other to the balcony). Add in the bedrooms, bathrooms, and voilร โฆ6 downstairs, 5 upstairs, so...11 doors in total across two floors!
And the real plot twist?? While tossing around ideas for our IG name, ๐ฎ๐๐น๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ felt fun and fitting for our maisonette life. But thenโฆ.*drumroll*โฆwe realised our unit number is ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ญ!! Total serendipity! Weโre not saying it was fate, but weโre also ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต saying that.
We used Mallorca Grey tiles from Soon Bee Huat, measuring 6.5x20cm at $4.90 per piece. These Spanish tiles have a deliberately uneven surface and an iridescent mother-of-pearl finish that gives them a handcrafted charm. We were lucky to snag the last batch before they went out of stock! Theyโre not only beautiful, but pair perfectly with our sintered stone countertop, adding both texture and elegance to our kitchen!
We know the grout lines might seem like a bit of a hassle to maintain, especially behind the kitchen stove. But we've got a simple solution: an aluminium backsplash protector that we use while cooking. It's soft, easy to fold away, and costs only $2 from Daiso!
These were custom-made by our interior designer. While we loved the idea of an open-concept kitchen, it wasn't practical for our cooking style. To keep cooking smells from permeating the living area and upstairs, we hacked the upper part of the kitchen wall (since the bottom half consists of cabinets) and installed fixed glass panels.
For both entrances, we opted for swing doors that can be left open for easy access and closed when cooking. Sliding doors weren't feasible due to limited wall space, so swing doors were the perfect compromise.
We sketched out our vision with arches, and our ID brought it to life. We get that airy, open feel we wanted, while keeping smells and noise contained. One of our favourite features in the home!
This is our next most asked! Our 0mm no-gap Louvre door is from PD Door, currently the only vendor in Singapore offering this exact feature.
Unlike traditional louvre doors that have visible spacing, this one offers full privacy while still allowing for ventilationโฆperfect for guest bathrooms where airflow is important, but so is privacy!
After some ๐ถ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฎโฆ"echo-y" experiences with gapped louvre doors in our last home, we decided to level up the privacy game. So hereโs to a door that keeps sounds in and awkward moments out! Guests love it, and so do we!

Okay, this roll drawer has been one of those little things that made a big difference in how our kitchen works day to day! We use it to store our kitchen towel roll (something thatโs usually left out on the countertop) so itโs neatly tucked away, super easy to reach, and no longer taking up space on our kitchen workspace! Itโs such a small detail, but it really helps keep things looking clean and uncluttered.
We first shared it on TikTok and IG and didnโt expect the internet to go that ๐๐๐๐ฟ over it...but hey, clearly weโre not the only ones who appreciate a good storage solution! ๐
The internal measurement is:โจ
Width: 17.4cm
Depth: 46.5cm
Height: 16.5cm
Itโs designed to hold one active roll up front (with an opening for easy access), and space behind for three refill rolls. Actually, we can also use it to store other usual countertop suspects (like foil, cling wrap, ziplocks) if we want to as well! A small drawer, but a big win in terms of practicality! Highly recommend planning this if you hate visual clutter on the countertop.
We went with two shades from Nippon Paint:
โข Swansdown (NP N 3393 P): A soft, warm white with subtle grey undertones. It creates a calming, clean backdrop that complements our wood textures and works throughout our common areas.
โข Make Believe (NP N 3407 P): Used in the kitchen, itโs a creamier, warmer white that brings out the richness of our walnut cabinets and pairs beautifully with the gold details and backsplash.
Together, the two shades create a warm, cohesive palette without looking too stark or too yellow. Great for homes with lots of wood tones because it balances things out without feeling cold!
We went with White Wash Oak from Nature Living Floor. After having dark wood floors in our old place, we totally flipped the script this time! We wanted something lighter and brighter, and this oak tone really does the trick.
It keeps the space feeling fresh and airy, and it fits so well with our modern organic vibe. Itโs the perfect balance to the darker elements we have around the house, like the walnut kitchen cabinets, without making things feel too heavy. Honestly, itโs just the right touch to make everything feel open and welcoming!
We also decided to skip vinyl skirting entirely; something thatโs becoming more common in modern homes, and weโre so glad we did! Skirting used to be a default finish, but these days, it can feel a bit outdated, especially if you're going for a clean, minimalist look. Without it, the transition from floor to wall looks much sleeker and more modern because thereโs no visual โcut-offโ or trim line, and design-wise, it creates this beautifully uninterrupted flow. The flooring just melts into the space, and itโs one of those small details that makes a big difference in how intentional and refined a room feels.
Of course, going skirting-free does mean extra care during installation. Silicone was used to seal the edge where the vinyl meets the wall, creating a neat, tight finish without compromising functionality, so there are no visible gaps, and no dust traps.
Another little thing we did that made a big difference: we skipped the T-joints at our bedroom entrances! This means the vinyl runs straight through from the hallway into each room without any breaks. No jarring transitions, no visual interruptions...just a continuous flow that really elevates the entire look! Itโs super subtle, but from a design perspective, it makes the home feel more cohesive and thoughtfully put together!
Unfortunately, we donโt have a colour code! Our laminate was selected from A4-sized samples provided by our ID, and it didnโt come with a reference name. However, weโre absolutely in love with the result!
The doors have a beautiful natural wood look, complete with a subtle, almost tactile texture that really gives them a realistic, authentic feel. The grain patterns are just abso-frikkin-lutely gorgeous! Nothing too over-the-top, but just enough to bring warmth and character to the room. What we love most is how perfectly it complements our vinyl flooring, and itโs been one of our favourite design decisions. Itโs the perfect touch for that natural, grounded vibe we wanted!
Oh, and instead of painting the door frame to match the walls, we decided to keep it in its raw wood finish! We thought it looked way better with the door laminate and gave everything that extra natural vibe we love. From a design perspective, it helps the door blend in more naturally with the rest of the room, without making things too matchy-matchy. Plus, it just feels more relaxed and adds to the whole grounded, organic vibe we were going for!
It actually came with the sink, which we bought from Shopee! Itโs a stainless steel bottom grid designed specifically to sit snugly at the base and protects the base of the sink from scratches and dings, especially when washing heavy pots and pans.
Our sink is a white fire clay farmhouse-style sink, and while itโs incredibly durable, fire clay can still chip or scratch if youโre not careful. This metal grid acts like a protective buffer, keeping cookware slightly elevated so they never hit the sink walls or base directly.
It also allows water to drain freely even if dishes are left inside. A small detail, but a very functional one, and makes a big difference in everyday use! We didn't know how much weโd appreciate it until we started using it!
We found ours through a vendor online, and it was installed for just $175! For those of us in older estates with in-unit rubbish chutes, this was a MUST. It neatly seals off the chute opening to keep out pests like cockroaches, while still allowing access when needed.
Itโs a small upgrade, but one that keeps us sleeping better at nightโฆbecause the only guests we want popping by uninvited are our friends, not creepy crawlies! Hit us up if you'd like the vendorโs contactโwe're happy to share!

Our roman blinds are from Everyday Curtains, and we seriously love them! We used Colour code E5151 for Level 1, and E5152 for all the bedrooms upstairs. Both shades are a gorgeous beige-neutral tone with a soft, earthy hue that give off a calm, grounded vibe. They fit perfectly with the modern organic feel we wanted for the house and blend seamlessly into the warm neutral palette we've got going throughout.
One of the best things about them is that they let in just enough sunlight without blocking the natural light, so the rooms never feel dark or closed off. Itโs that perfect mix of giving us privacy while still keeping the space bright and airy. Weโre super happy with how they help the house feel warm, welcoming, and full of light!
