Renovations are already expensive, so of course we tried to save wherever we could. One of the ways we thought we were being smart was by buying rechargeable lights from Taobao. They were so much cheaper and seemed like an easy win
But what we didn’t factor in was our own behaviour. On paper, rechargeable lights made perfect sense. In reality, it was a whole different story.
For the first few weeks, we were very disciplined. We charged them regularly and actually used them quite often. Everything felt fine and we thought we made a good decision.
Then life got busy, routines changed and slowly, the lights became more of a chore. Charging them felt troublesome and eventually we stopped using them altogether. They ended up sitting there, fully installed but rarely turned on.
So the lesson we learned is this. Cheaper does not always mean better. Sometimes paying a little extra upfront can save you time, effort and unnecessary frustration in the long run.
If you have any renovation choices you regret or things that didn’t go as planned, share them below. It might just help someone else avoid the same mistake.
