This was how the space used to look like, which didn’t fit our modern coastal theme at all. We decided to make a few changes to revamp the space :)

The first thing we did was to change the gate colour from the original gold to white. We paid $100 to a guy on Carousell to have it repainted.

The next thing we did was to change the door colour - instead of changing the entire door, we did a door wrap using a light grey 3M vinyl film with a subtle grain. Just changing the gate and door colour makes such a big difference to the overall aesthetics that we were going for :)

Thirdly, we customised a dark grey entrance mat on Shopee that was thin enough to fit under our gate, which costs around $73. The ordering process was pretty straightforward - we measured the area we wanted to cover with the mat and gave the seller the dimensions of the two pieces required (90 * 180cm and 125 * 180cm). Once the mat arrived in a rolled form, we only had to trim the edges to fit our entrance nicely. The carpet feels quite nice to walk on :) The only downside is dirt tends to show up easily on the dark surface, but nothing a quick vacuum can't fix!

To make it convenient to put on shoes, we placed a 110cm long shoe rack bench here. Picked one with woven and wooden accents to fit the coastal theme.

Lastly, for a pop of greenery, we bought a 1.6m tall potted faux plant (Dracaena Marginata) in the corner and got a separate white pot for it. We might also add more faux potted plants to beautify this space in future!
