Hello you~ sharing a lil’ something different today! What are your thoughts on renting your home out for filming? Not everyone is comfortable with that & it’s fair! We tried this on a platform called Filmplace & if you’re keen, I’ve collated some pointers to take note of šŸ«¶šŸ» Regarding photography equipment, the crew will usually take extra care (using tennis balls) to protect flooring.

    1. Pros & Cons Pros: - Earn extra side income (tip: charge higher for weekends) - Meet new people (you’re usually communicating with creative agencies or brands) Cons: - Sharing your ā€˜private’ space with others (at least during the shoot hours) - Cleaning & tidying your home before & after shoot (required) - Ensure you’re onsite (at home) during shoot. Not everyone has the luxury to do so

    2. Before The Shoot Please ensure you get the following information: - how many pax will be onsite? (crew & talents) - which areas of the house do you require? (some may not require master bedroom so you can ā€˜hide’ there while they film) (if they require bedroom, I’ll ask if they need the bed & prepare their own bedsheets for hygiene purposes etc) - what kind of shoot? (ask the content angle, brand etc) - how many hours? - firm up payment & details (more info on last slide) & more.

    3. Talent Makeup & Holding Area You’re looking at a full set-up by MediaCorp (I know, insane 🤯) they brought all these props! On other shoots, this study room is empty with a table & chair so we provide it as a space for talents to do makeup & for all crew to put their bags etc.

    4. Crew Equipment As crew equipment are usually bulky & heavy, we usually have a space outside our unit (perks of a corner unit!) Tip: I’ll always remind them not to block neighbours’ unit, fire hose reel & staircases! So far I don’t have any complaints yet šŸ™šŸ»

    5. During The Shoot I’ll usually inform production team on light switches, fan remotes etc etc before I let them do their thing! It’s quite fun to see the ā€˜behind the scenes’ of the director, lighting crew & talents when director shouts ACTION!! šŸ˜… of course I don’t breathe down their necks & be intrusive! After all, they rented the space for their professional work.

    6. Sharing From My POV This is sensitive as projects usually have a ā€˜live’ or ā€˜embargo’ date. I’ll be sure to get this date from the team & also ask them for permission if I’m able to share it after. If not, all’s good too! You’re looking at Mediacorp’s Star Awards 2025 where our kitchen was featured on TV šŸ“ŗ SUCH A SURREAL MOMENT!!! Go search on Mewatch!!!

    7. Pricing & Payment My current rate is $100/h (weekdays) & $150/h (weekends) for the entire 4-room space. When you liaise through Filmplace, the platform takes a cut of your rate, and it receives payment from client first. The payment will get to you after the shoot. Check T&Cs properly before you consider joining. Lastly, let me know if you have any questions & here’s my Filmplace listing: https://www.filmplace.co/en/rooms/13244/japandi-wabi-sabi-4-rm-bto-hdb-in-ubi-1 With love, J&J šŸ’« IG: @jjhomestories
