Limewash didn’t even come to our minds at the beginning. But once our ID showed us a render of our dining and living room with a limewash wall, oof, it was love at first sight.
The fact that limewash is costly is honestly nothing new. So when our ID quoted us around $2,000 for it, it was one of those things that we couldn’t say yes to immediately.
Luckily, it’s one of the very last steps of the renovation process, so we had time to think.
We also enquired other established limewash painters but the price range didn’t differ much from what our ID quoted.
Doing a DIY limewash wall did come to mind too, but we didn’t quite trust ourselves so we eventually canned the idea 😅
Then, the husband decided to turn to another channel – Carousell.
He reached out to several limewash painters on Carousell and asked for photos of their actual work.
If you are looking for a limewash vendor as well, you’ll need to know that a limewash wall that is freshly done vs one that has been done months ago will differ in colour – the colour of limewash will change over time.
With that in mind, we tried to take the photos with a pinch of salt – they will evidently look darker because the limewash paint is still fresh.
In the end, we went with one that had a streak of good reviews.
On the day of the painting, one man came armed with a bucket and a sponge.
I don’t know what we expected – probably some elaborate equipment or more people – but it was a very humble sight with no frills. He took around three hours to complete the job. It costed us around $600 – slightly less than one third of what it would’ve costed us.
The photo above was taken right after he was done with the painting.
Going with a limewash painter from Carousell was honestly one of our best reno decisions.
This is how our limewash looks like after around 1.5 years (including the first photo) and we still fall in love with it every single day.
*As a caveat, all this took place in 2024 so rates may have increased since then*
