The resale flat that we bought did not come with a service yard, so we thought of a way to create one!

Keeping the theme of a Japanese-style home in mind, we customised floor-to-ceiling Shōji sliding doors to segregate the existing kitchen into two areas — one for cooking and another for laundry.

The Shōji doors are fully functional, and can be kept on either side when not in use ☺️

Equipping our service yard with essential laundry amenities to make the most of the area. Alongside a washing machine and laundry baskets, the space is also decked out with a Steigen automatic laundry system, a fridge for easy access to refreshments, as well as built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinets to store laundry essentials. In addition to drying our clothes, the Steigen also doubles as a fan to keep us cool while we engage in laundry activities 😙

One problem that we discovered: Our service yard gets waaaay too much sun, to the extent that our fridge, washing machine and cabinets become super HOT in the morning 🔥

To prevent anything from becoming fried, we installed sunshade roller blinds to block out the sun. Installation was easy and straightforward, as it only requires the usage of suction cups. No mess! And so far the blinds have been holding up well 👍🏻 If you are facing the same problem as us, perhaps this may be a solution worth considering!
