In this mini series, we discuss how to navigate texture (styling, surface finishes and carpentry forms) with lighting to create THE impact you want in your home!
From minor tweaks to overhauls, here are some ideas you can incorporate to zest up your living spaces.
Be it the foyer, stairway or corridor spaces - areas of transition - let's have some fun with it!
Introduce bi-directional lighting - Not only does this accentuate the volume of your space, but light-and-shadow does well in spatial sculpting and creating a warm and inviting ambience. This simple strategy brings intention to your transitional spaces, tying them in as the subtle, supporting focal points of your home!
Couple these areas with a side board for that lived-in aesthetic and to remind you, with its displays, to slow down and appreciate being present.
BACKlighting along your shelves are typically not the number 1 choice when it comes to LED strip light placements, let's be honest ;)
Reason being, most people like their LED strips serving its primary function - lighting up items - and would, therefore, rather have them at the forefront of shelves instead of behind its objects.
The beauty of backlighting though, is the soft glow it creates and the holistic depth and dimension it gives a room, through lighting, when coupled with the main or stronger supporting lights in the room.
We coupled this with a wallpapered ceiling of a starry night, offering a soft, galactical approach when all the lights are turned off and only the subliminal backlighting remains.
Platform storage beds don't always have to feel boxy.
And despite how trending curves were for a minute, if there is intention behind a strategy, it will forever be timeless in the eyes of the beholder.
We're referring specifically to this playfully designed storage bed with a ramp in the top left, rounded profile edges and soft, cascading step curves. The intention was to keep it fun and child-friendly for the family's toddler who co-sleeps, while averting the fear of stubbing their toes.
Recessed wall slit lights add to the grandeur of the space, offering transitional night lighting while highlighting the "cascading-levels" platform detail along the end of the bed.
Mineral coating over a custom-arched carpentry wall!
It's giving micro-texture, just enough for that granular feel WITHOUT the deep creases, making it an easy surface to clean and THE PERFECT ruggedness to throw light against.
With that, we introduce Sol Luminaire's Kepler series, an eclipse-styled wall light with memory function. This bedhead wall light throws enough radius of light to illuminate the tactile detail, and has the right amount of warmth (3000K) to make any bedroom setup feel cosy and inviting.
Bar counters are a statement in itself and with every statement, comes more design detail!
Over here, we have Chroma Panel's beautiful concave series, cladded all along the outer facing surfaces of the bar counter. These concave panels break the monotony of an otherwise flat and lengthy surface, and pulls focus to this lounge-y social corner.
Under-ledge lighting draws the eye to the height of the counter, and plays up the feeling of weightlessness. We paired that with custom-upholstered bar seating, courtesy of Onlewo, a local fabric designer with traditional and cultural-inspired prints.
