However, just as I thought back then, it is actually pretty hard to pull off mid-century modern here because we do have certain restraints vs the US in the things we can get/buy. Also itâs sooooo much cheaper to get cooler Reno work done versus in SG so if youâre feeling limited and sad, donât be. Thereâs so many other things you can do. So read ahead and I hope the 4 tips I have will help! 
1) Decipher: whatâs your theme? âš I know this whole topic is on mid-century modern so youâre like wtf do you mean, obviously Iâm looking for that. But tbh.. when we made our house we thought thatâs our direction too. â©In reality, I think we ended up a little closer to retro and Bauhaus đ€·đ»ââïž. There are definitely heavy tones of mid-century modern but the deciding factor tbh (TO ME!!) is that we donât have much thrifted or CRUCIALLY actual mid-century items that have that rustic charm. â©There are actually many variations and styles that look close to mid-century modern but take on their own beauty and vibe so maybe explore and look into those before being too rigid on what you think you want! 
2) Make the theme suit your personality: âšDonât watch shows or IG reels and just copy it lot stock and barrel because itâll show. There are many beautiful homes out there that donât feel like they suit the ownersâ personalities and theyâre just carved out over whatâs trendy and hyped up. Find out what suits YOU and what you want to highlight in your home. 
3) Figure out a main and secondary color theme: âšI think this is pretty duh and honestly doesnât have to be taken too far. Just create a chart based off Pinterest images of homes you like and what kind of vibe you want (cooler tones/ warmer tones/bolder tones etc). â©The next step I did was⊠found hex codes of the colors I want in the home (because I guess designers should understand designers right đ€·đ»ââïž) of what should match my walls and doors etc and just made my ID find the closest tones to narrow down for me lol. â©And TBVH the matches were really good and I was very pleased. But DISCLAIMER: only do this if youâre very Type B like me! Perhaps you can even put the hex codes in ChatGPT and ask them to recommend you paint codes? 
4) Understand the importance of furniture and decor â©This one omg is of utmost importance. Please donât just go to IKEA and get everything. I MEAN YOU COULD, REALLY, but then you just get a really aesthetic home. The end. Iâm not sure if youâd be able to inject too much personality because I think thatâs just a showroom by that point so please try to pick some highlight IKEA pieces but not the whole damn store. â©Likewise⊠Decor can be bought from everywhere so donât just taobao the lot đđ» once again, YOU COULD, but just like an IKEA house⊠itâs obvious when you have a Taobao house. Doesnât matter how skilled you are at TB and navigating it and getting all the best deals. People will still be able to tell. â©Try to mix it up - explore stores like MOHD, sumu goods, stacked store, SOJAO, or even seek out local illustrators who can bring some unique flavor into your home.
