From the beginning we knew we wanted to have a divider to prevent our kitchen mess from becoming the first impression of every guest visiting the house. But we must admit that doubts kicked in during the whole renovation process and we almost cancel the divider. Luckily we took the chance and have this divider. ;)
When discussing with a few IDs, everyone came up with different ideas. The first was to build a full-height shoe cabinet with a seatee and have much smaller kitchen island. It was very mid-century modern vibe, but we decided to prioritize the big island. Another option was to have a full-height hollow blocks/bricks, which gives a rustic nuance that we liked, but we hate the idea of cleaning the dusts trapped in the many hollows. As for our selected ID, he actually suggested a wall divider with circular glass, which amazed us when we saw the 3D drawing. However, after much consideration and own research, we decided to have full-height glass block for its rustic feel, low maintenance, while still allowing lights to pass through and brightening both sides of the space.
We envisioned that with the right lightings on either side, the opposite space would have unique ambience from the lights and blurred objects that pass through the glass blocks.
Once we settled on building glass block partition, we then have to decide the type of glass blocks to use. Luckily for this decision, we were solid from the beginning that we wanted the "oldies" rectangular type instead of the "modern" square type (which was gaining popularity at the time).
The options did not stop there. Even for rectangular type, there is a few option of the glass pattern we could choose from, be it a clear, wave, candi, diamond, or toba glass pattern. All and all, we did not regret our decision to this day.
