The real cost of displaying your collection!
2749
So you’ve been collecting for ten years and you’ve finally got the keys to your own home? How do you go about building the display cabinet of your dreams? First, pick a spot. Which is the best location in your house to display your collection? Do you want it to be the focus of your home or hidden away since it clashes with the theme? Next, and most importantly, take ACCURATE measurements if you’re displaying boxed collectibles. Measure ceiling to floor, wall to wall, thickness. Consider how you wish to stack your collectibles as well! Next, consider the lighting (and your budget). Do you have sufficient overhead lighting? Would you like strip lighting in your display cabinet? If so, where (top, side, bottom)? Also, what temperature would you like for your lighting: cool, mixed or warm? Ensure this is communicated clearly from the very beginning. After the lighting is sorted, think about whether you’d like an open display or closed. How many doors? What type of doors? How about the glass? Mrs gangsagem SERIOUSLY regrets choosing tinted glass because clear glass would have been far better to see the colours on a Funkopop box. If you’re leaning towards choosing a full door like us, do take note that it needs seriously large hinges. Like seriously HUGE! In fact, Mrs gangsagem did not take into account how large they had to be that this messed up the number of Funkopops she could put on display. 🥲 Once everything is settled, and you’re a good $5k+ poorer, you can finally begin the tiring but satisfying process of stacking your beloved collectibles. Getting help (from a relative -> e.g. a nephew) will certainly make this task way easier. And finally, you’re done!
