The heart of our home - The Living. Welcome to the Living Area where I spend the most time! Keeping true to what and how I am, the Living is kept as minimal and clutter free with little or no display. Keeping consistent with same colours throughout the home was challenging as most of my furniture came from Taobao. It was a gigantic blind box surprise when shipment comes. To my surprise, the colours were pretty muted snd fit very well. There were gaps/empty spaces everywhere and I decided to fill it with plants. I was never a plant parent before but always love the idea of having plants or nature closer. Chanced upon Jungalore and forged a strong friendship with lady boss, Ara! She listened, understood my needs and suggested plants as a first time plant parent. Never regretted or look back as having plants really gave the home a softer look. The choice of coffee table was to match and bring out the Japandi theme using rattan. Keeping it simple with no decoration pieces yet achieving the clean Japandi look. The sofa became one of my favourite places to be at. To be able to sink into the sofa comfortably is such a luxury! Opening up the space was something I never regretted! Having a bigger space in the living also meant easier for big group hosting and guest can easily mingle around. Not enough chairs? Floor will do the job! Having a dehumidifier was definitely a NEED as home is near waters and removing moisture is necessary to keep the home fresh! During colder months, strong winds were gushing into the house and the living became unbearably cold. A soft blanket will do the job of keeping warm and at the same time adds to the aesthetics of the home. When planning for the living room, an inviting space was what I was looking for. A longer sofa will be able to create that feel but at the same time, it will be very awkward to have only partial wall supporting the sofa. The creation of the half height wall was done to be the backing of the sofa at the same time, fulfilling the aesthetics when entering the home. The half height wall is also used to place the candle warmer for aesthetics reasons and at the same time to create the mood for the home at night. Curving this corner of the half height wall is something I did not regret. It softens the look of the home and at the same time, there are no edges to cause accidental bumps. Having a similar length TV console also creates a seamless look with the sofa. Another consideration to take when planning your furniture! Minimal decoration items are placed on top of the TV console. Lesser decoration, lesser dust to wipe. Glass bell jar was an old IKEA item which is no longer in store. Bonus: Look of the home at night! I went with cove down light instead of adjustable tracks for the clean seamless look. At the same time, lesser dust! Peeking through my windows, I have views of lights from the ships everyday! What a way to wind down my day!
