[SLŌ HOME] Zen | Nature | Journey
36711
Inspired by Zen and Japandi principles, this home was designed as a journey - from vibrant social spaces at the front, to calm restful corners at the back 🌻 Raw materials like wood and cement reflect the wabi-sabi philosophy, embracing the beauty of imperfections and the transience of nature 🍃 With elements like shoji doors, platformed spaces and a zen balcony garden, the design blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, inviting balance, reflection and ease 🎋 Slatted wood and open shelving define the entryway — offering gentle separation while inviting fleeting glimpses into the living space ✨ A framed opening toward the balcony not only enhances visual flow, but also encourages natural cross ventilation between the main door and dining area 🪟 Taking inspiration from the Chashitsu [茶室], the dining space takes cues from the traditional Japanese tea house — designed to create a harmonious setting for hospitality, both physically and spiritually 🍵 Instead of solid walls separating the dining, living and kitchen areas, shōji [障子] doors were used to keep the layout open and flexible🚪The washi [和紙] on the shōji panels allows soft natural light to filter through, while the grid design adds a sense of clean order — keeping the space calm and uncluttered 🍃 Curved accents throughout the living space softens the rigid, boxy layout — creating a more fluid and inviting atmosphere 🛋️ The display area serves as both a visual divider and a platform for the homeowners to showcase their personal collections 🧸 A raised platform in the study creates a subtle separation within the space, offering the homeowners a cozy corner to unwind and relax after long hours at the computer 🖥️ Counter seats by the window create a relaxed, slower-paced atmosphere🪟 Sitting there — working, savoring a cup of coffee, or enjoying a glass of wine as night falls — becomes a quiet ritual of unwinding, a small escape from the everyday rush 😌 By blurring boundaries between indoor and outdoor, the zen garden becomes a natural extension of the interior — infusing the home with a quiet sense of peace 🍃 Curved ceiling in the bedroom evokes a sense of safety and comfort — soft lines that naturally signals calm to the human mind 🛏️ Textured glass blocks introduces layers of materiality, allowing light to filter gently though the space, creating visual depth, and a quiet stillness that invites rest and relaxation 💤 Like what you see?
