  • Sketches brought to life! (Renders vs Reality)
It's been close to a year since we've moved in and let's take a look at how our home compare to the design sketches done by our ID! TLDR - they are in fact pretty similar, and we are quite pleased with the end result :)

Because our entryway is pretty narrow, we went with the last minute decision to drop the carpentry to cover up the bomb shelter door. Instead, we decided to paint an arch over it but we wanted to see how it would look in the renders before going ahead with it.

Fortunately, it turned out pretty ok and we managed to save some $$ too!

For our kitchen, we'd always wanted open shelving and a chimney hood. And again, the 3D renders helped to confirm our choice!

All good - turned out pretty much as planned. We even managed to pick out pretty similar chairs and dining table!

The arch is one of the key focal point of our kitchen and we needed to get the size and shape right!

This is such a dreams-come-to-life moment! It's exactly what we were looking for - one of the design features we really love in our home :)

Zooming out to a wider angle view of our entryway + kitchen area to see the different areas come together. We found the overall a bit too pale, so we asked to swap the colour of the carpentry and the door.

Reality fits our personality much more! We aren't really the minimalist sort haha.

Final area in our kitchen is our go-to pantry area! We don't drink much alcohol, so this is actually our coffee making spot :)

Another dreams-come-to-life moment! Both of us drink so much coffee and we knew this was something we really wanted once we have our own space!

To follow from the blue kitchen cabinets, we went with a blue themed toilet - blue tiles on one of the wall and blue-based printed tiles for the floor (check out the toilet post!) We also wanted to go for a standing sink (instead of the usual carpentry ones) for a different look.

Took a while to find a suitable standing sink. Honestly, we had some hesitations about this because it meant that we had to give up some storage space, but fortunately it turned out ok (we just stored our things at the master toilet vanity cabinet instead).

A chill balcony-like area at our MBR, with bamboo blind as we've envisaged :)

It's not very common to use such blank and white bamboo blinds and we love the colonial look (esp with the pattern tiles)!

Final render - our MBR toilet. We went with a dark themed one to match the rest of the MBR.

We love it! We even managed to find a dark grey toilet and the a concrete sink that perfectly suits the theme :) That's all for now! Throughout the renovation journey, we found sketches/ renders very useful as they let us better visualise how things will turn out before committing to decisions. If you're engaging an ID, don't be shy to ask them for more renders for comparison to help you with decision making (we personally found them pretty accurate!). Enjoy the process of bringing your sketches to life!
