Since our initial move 2 years ago, we’ve had many ideas for our living room space, thinking that we would do a modular type of living room with fewer fixtures for more flexibility when hosting, or even have a long and low height coffee table that can double up as a tea table for us to appreciate tea in the evenings after work. 🫖 Since then, we’ve tried out 3 rugs and wanted to share our thoughts so that you can consider the pros and cons! 😃 
First up our large rug from Taobao. We loved that it was large and made the living space nice and cosy, Being the same length as our sofa and TV console, the rug created an area that was a bit more communal. However, due to its material, it traps hair, dust, and eventually gets stained with some black marks. 😔 
We got our second rug from Hipvan and it is much smaller compared to the first. But we loved its aesthetic and the soft touch of warmth it adds in contrast to our vinyl concrete flooring. 😻 Similar to the first rug cons-wise; this rug also traps hair mostly, although dust was less apparent and it was somewhat water resistant. Thankfully there weren’t any stains after a good 6 months of use! 👍🏼 
The final rug was also from Taobao, although its shape is something that probably doesn’t come to mind when you first think about rugs. We thought it was a fun element that we wanted throughout our home as well as to test if it could work in the living room space. You guessed it — it really doesn’t. 😅 Practicality aside, it is quite a funny talking point, but realistically only our cat, Xiaohei would fit there. Cons-wise, it was similar to the first rug where hair and dust were easily trapped and could be stained quite quickly due to its absorbent material. Eventually, we moved this to our hobby room and it fit perfectly with our vinyl cabinet! 🤩 
Whether it’s aesthetics or practicality, rugs do help to anchor a space and make it more cosy, homely, and add a bit of life to any home. We hope this has been a useful walkthrough of our rugs, their pros and cons, and that this helps you make your decision slightly easier! 😊
