Saw that reno regrets are trending now! Some quick facts about the Dark Dak House: 1. The house is 40 years old 2. We did not hire an ID, my uncle is a contractor so he helped with the sourcing of suppliers 3. We renovated the house the same period we were planning a wedding 😮‍💨

FIRST AND FOREMOST AND THE BIGGEST REGRET. What you see behind these cabinets, is our rubbish chute. Being deathly afraid of cockroaches, we decided to seal up the chute with silicon AND put carpentry over. Double protection should be fine right? NO. It wasn’t fine. Apparently these pesky cockroaches can climb through the tiniest of holes. Sealing the chute behind carpentry also means that if cockroaches are escaping out of gaps from the silicon, we can’t see anything crawling out and take action. We had a really bad cockroach situation one month moving in. Suspected that the cockroaches are crawling from the chute and into the house 😭 We finally solved the cockroach situation after 5 months. Let me know if you’re interested in how we solved that. Will be happy to share my 617363882 tips.

Secondly, as you know, we planned the reno of the house + a 3 day (I know it’s much but this isn’t a wedding platform so I guess I don’t have to share about that haha). Everyone, if you’re a full time working adult with a social life, please don’t do that. Don’t recommend hahahahahah We were so busy we couldn’t not be present for a lot of the works done on weekdays. As a result, we could not ensure that the electrical work was done the exact way we wanted 😭 Had to pay extra to shift this light. Now I’ll have to find time to paint over the original markings 😢

AGAIN, please don’t plan a wedding and a house at the same time. Not being able to be around when the WiFi router guys were around meant that they went ahead to fix the router thingy in the living room.

Our solution was to cover it up with this vintage artwork (from the 70s!!!) and a lamp. Added to the aesthetics hehe.

Not sure if you can tell haha, but we are a home of colors! We really love green so we decided to add a textured limewash coat of paint to this wall as a “centerpiece” of the living room. Still loving this wall, but the regret is, it’s harder to find artwork to display here now because I keep trying to find artwork that matches a green wall. Ok la, this is probably just a ME issue 😝

We shifted our sink/vanity area to outside the bathroom so there’s more shower and pooping space! Reno regret for this is to not get a large gunmetal matte sink! Some toothpaste and facial wash leaves behind a white powder residue. So we have to clean this sink really regularly 😮‍💨

Last but not least, we wanted to install a glass sliding door instead of the usual open door for our bathroom to save space. However this meant that there was a small gap under the door to allow the sliding mechanic to be at. This also means that everytime the shower is faced towards the bottom of the door, the floor on the outside of the door would get a little wet. Not a big issue, but something to take note of!
