This is our dining space 🍽️ We went for a big 8-seater table because we truly enjoy hosting family and friends — it’s where most of our laughter and conversations happen. The table is from V-Haus, and while we chose the rectangular design, it also comes in an oval shape. Looking back, we do feel the oval might have flowed better with our space visually. At the time, though, we played it safe! We were worried that an oval table might offer less usable surface area, and since this is such a key piece in our home, we wanted to be practical too. Either way, it’s become the centerpiece of our dining area and we love how it brings everyone together!

While we loved the look of hanging pendant lights, we were concerned about practicality. With the natural wind coming through and side fans running, we worried that hanging lights might not stay stable and would end up swinging around. Instead, we chose to keep the side fans for ventilation. They keep the space airy and cool, plus we can angle them away from the dining table so they don’t blow directly on the food. In our previous home, we had a ceiling fan with a built-in light above the dining table, and we noticed that it cooled the food way too quickly once it was served. This time, we wanted to avoid that issue while still keeping the space comfortable — and the ceiling light with side fans turned out to be the perfect solution!

Like most homes, our dining area sits right beside our living room. We wanted the furniture colors to complement each other so there’s a cohesive flow, but still give each space its own individual style and character. To keep the area comfortable, we installed two air-conditioning units to ensure the cooling is sufficient for both the living and dining spaces, especially when we’re hosting. You might also notice a pocket of space between our common bedrooms in the background — we’ve got something special planned for it, and we’ll share more about that soon!

As you can see, the pocket of space sits just behind our dining area in this picture. It’s a small and cozy corner, so we decided to make it functional by placing our altar there and also using it to store our kids’ toys. We realized over time that our kids prefer having their toys close to the living area, rather than tucked away in a room. This way, they can easily play while still being around us, and it keeps the flow of our home natural and family-friendly. It’s turned into a simple but meaningful spot that blends practicality and purpose beautifully!

The wall behind our toy storage area actually used to be the entrance to one of our common bedrooms. This was sealed up by the previous owner, which worked out well for us as it gave us a cleaner layout for the dining and living space. The door on the right leads to our master bedroom, which is then connected internally to the common bedroom as well. It’s a unique setup, but we love how it creates a seamless flow between the rooms while keeping the main living area open and uncluttered.
