  • Playroom Tour: Organized for All-Around Big Fun!
We picked this common room as the playroom because of this arch hole-in-the-wall that was left behind from the previous owner. Before, it was an open hole with an iron rod grill, but we chose to replace it with glass. It becomes a cute little peek through window, that brightens up the stairway area with sunlight and colours from within the playroom!

I wanted a bright but gender neutral colour for the accent wall, and yellow was an obvious choice for me. The IKEA storages were from our previous home, and I will be working on a similar vibe on the playroom this time! Lots of wood/natural furnitures towards a montessori arrangement.

An IKEA Trofast storage unit is a must-have in every playroom. Toys are easily organised and there are endless possibilities on the configuration of the storage bins to suit you and the kids. Because of its flexibility, it can grow with the child as well - from smaller bins to hold rattles for babies to larger bins to hold train sets and dolls.

I’ve took a step further an labelled each bin. This makes organising and cleaning up so much easier, especially for the kids! My 5yo, who is beginning to identify words and read, can now organise the toys independently with these labels.

On the top of the Trofast storage unit, I’ve placed my 20mo’s toys for easy reach. She has been naturally drawn to this space as she’s able to reach the toys and independently choose what she wants to play with.

The other popular option for playroom storage is the IKEA Kallax shelving unit! Another choice that’s very flexible - it can be placed vertically as well. We opted to have it horizontally so that our kids can help themselves to the toys.

At the top of the shelf, I’ve placed my older kids’ toys as he’ll be able to reach it himself. I also chose the more ‘aesthetic’ toys to act as a display/decor as well!

The top row of the Kallax shelf houses our younger kid’s toys for her accessibility. We did a montessori approach with this - one toy per space and no missing pieces for each toy.

The Kallax shelving unit allows plenty of options to configure each cube. I’ve opted for these white Kuggis storage boxes, and yes again for ease of organisation and retrieval for my kids. Currently, the 4 boxes store for following categories: 1) magnet sets 2) craft & activities 3) boxed games & 4) puzzles. As you can tell, organisation and accessibility is key to the playroom I’d like to achieve. I’ll be sprucing up the space with more decor in time to come! Hope this inspired a conducive play area for your family as well!
