Hello from a home that currently only exists in our heads (and these mockups) 🏡
We are JY and Don, and we are counting down to getting our keys this June '26 while slowly piecing together what we hope will become our home.
Speaking to IDs and contractors can feel overwhelming at times. There are always so many exciting ideas, clever layouts, and beautiful concepts being thrown our way. It is easy to get swept up in it all TBH! But we knew early on that beyond all the possibilities, there were a few things we simply could not let go of.
Here are 3 things we refused to compromise on when designing our home.
1. Furniture as the hero
Don’s a product designer, so naturally… furniture isn’t just functional, it’s the main character!
So, we did things in reverse.
We bought pieces we really loved first. Some of them we have been eyeing and saving for years.
So instead of asking “what fits the space?” we asked
“what kind of space lets these pieces shine?”
These are some of the pieces we've got so far.
2. Work-from-home, but make it liveable
JY works from home almost every day and the idea of being cooped up in one room all day was not it.
She has always loved co-working spaces, moving around, changing spots at different hours of the day, resetting between tasks.
So we are designing a space that feels open but still allows for privacy during calls, and yes strategically near a water point.
More on this layout in the next post >> 👀
3. A home that hosts
We knew our home would be a hosting spot for our friends and family. So we had to make sure the space will allow us to do just that.
We always had a soft spot for round dining tables - never had one growing up, so this was our first buy with hosting in mind. We also love the idea of everyone seeing each other and chatting while dining.
And beyond that, we are creating a living space that can shift from quiet nights for two to mahjong or board game nights with friends.
Of course, these mockups are our first attempt at bringing all that together.. let’s see how much survives in real life 😅
If you made it this far, HELLO!
We wanted to use this space to share the real journey, the decisions, the doubts, and the small wins as we figure out how to build a home that actually fits how we live.
