Before
This is the entryway from the previous homeowner. The original storage area was transformed into a display cabinet that also serves as an entryway to the kitchen.
We liked the idea of having a dedicated storeroom to keep our belongings organized and maintain a clean, tidy home. Therefore, we reinstated the wall and closed off the entry to the kitchen.
After
This is the look of our entryway. We opted for a tic-tac door for the storeroom to achieve a clean, concealed appearance. The door is finished in a light brown tone to complement the home’s overall earthy theme, matching the main door as well. To create contrast, we chose bold, dark colors for the entryway, setting it apart from the rest of the house. As avid travelers, we were inspired by a 'Bali vibe'—this is reflected in the pebbled stepping stone flooring. We also installed a breeze block panel to add a touch of privacy from the outside, while still maintaining the home’s open-concept feel.
Process
This shows the process of how the pebbled stone flooring was created. Cement was poured onto the floor, and each pebble was manually placed and pressed into the wet cement. It was a labour-intensive task, done entirely by hand, one stone at a time. While it wasn’t an easy feat, we’re very satisfied with how it turned out.
The breeze block that was used for the entryway. These block serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. The open patterns allow air to pass through, making them ideal for natural airflow and cooling and light in while also provide partial visual screening. Great for both openness and privacy! It also add texture, patterns, and a tropical feel.
