When envisioning the design of our kitchen, our primary goal was to create a spacious, uncluttered, and well-lit space. Since this area receives less natural light than the rest of our home, we aimed for a bright colour scheme. We also placed a high importance on preserving a spacious and welcoming atmosphere. In pursuit of this goal, we made the unconventional choice of eliminating upper cabinets (hence topless), despite the advice we received suggesting otherwise.

Our wall tiles are a subtle off-white to maintain the overall brightness, complemented by light brown cabinets, and we added a vibrant pop of orange to the island for a dash of colour.

We chose shaker-style cabinets without handles to achieve a continuous, unbroken visual flow in our cabinetry. This also makes cleaning easier by reducing the number of crevices and protruding elements where dust, dirt, or grease can accumulate.

Our choice of appliances was deliberate, aligning with the kitchen's colour scheme and overall aesthetic. They feature pastel hues, with some in a soft beige tone, and are part of a vintage or retro-inspired series. To maximize our limited counter space (due to the fridge's placement on the far right), we opted for a 2-burner glass hob.

We also chose a single sink, ensuring efficient use of available room. A pull-out tap was an essential choice for us because it enables more precise and thorough cleaning of dishes and cookware, as well as reaching and rinsing those challenging corners in the sink.

Admittedly, opting out of top cabinets did lead to a reduction in available storage space. To counter this, we incorporated a generously-sized island, serving a dual purpose as both a prep area and supplementary storage solution. This island boasts two shelves where we neatly store appliances, large pots, and pans when they're not in use, keeping our kitchen looking organized.
