Hello again!👋🏻😌 In this post, we’ll be going through how we made our master bedroom into what it is today! This room, like the rest of the house, has also been through quite a bit of changes in our time here. Follow along on this journey to see how we used styling to change the feel of the room and to suit us better at different phases in our lives (made us sound old but I swear we’re not that old hahaha). Photo of Cai Tou… 🌚 … And Cai Png to bribe our readers before we begin.🌝 As you all already know from our previous posts, our home is a DBSS which meant that it was move-in ready. The parquet flooring, the wardrobe carpentry, the air conditioning and even the curtain tracks that you see in this photo all came with the house. We just had to bring in furniture and install lights and we were ready to go! So after making the biggest purchase of our lives, we were broke.🥲 We made do with a super cheap and thin tilam, and I tried to make it nicer and more inviting by styling the bed with matching bedding and a throw blanket and even added some art above the bed.😂 Because even though we were poor then, aesthetics mattered to me as it affected how I felt in the space. The layout of the bed was also different back then, we slept facing our windows. Even though we had little, we were still happy with what we had at that time. So tip for homeowners: you can always spruce up your space in your own little way with whatever makes you feel happy and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Little by little our lives changed, I graduated from uni and we started our own business. We sold off old furnitures and bought new ones one by one based on our priorities. Here is our new mattress on the floor with a new layout as the bed frame we bought was not delivered yet. We spent some time deciding on the mattress as we valued sleep a lot (after years of sleeping on the thin tilam our backs couldn’t take it anymore hahaha) and purchased one that we both found super comfortable. So another tip for new home owners: some things cannot save money one. Spend on the mattress! You’re spending almost a third your lives sleeping so find one that you and your partner loves. Did some visualisation for how we’re gonna style the room with the new layout. I’m not a professional so please don’t judge the drawing.🤣 New bed frame came and added the photo ledge above the bed. Got our uncle to come and help to screw it in so costing was minimal, only spent money on new furnitures. This was also around the time when our fur children, Cai Tou and Cai Png, came into our lives.❤️ Found out the hard way that putting a lot of things on a ledge above our heads was not practical, especially when you have hyper active cats that have zoomies in the middle of the night.🥲 We were woken up so many times in shock by things falling on us! So with changing times, we changed things around again and I replaced all the items with these matching 50cmx70cm frames thinking I was smart to do so. Can sleep properly and still looks aesthetic right? Right?! Wrong! They still managed to climb onto the ledge and the frames would fall on our faces.🥲 Made the decision to remove the ledge altogether and did up these wall art by myself because aesthetics.✨ Couldn’t find one online that I loved or the ones I liked were ridiculously priced (like imagine $500+). Again, we got our uncle to come and help us to remove the ledge and hang up the two frames. At this point we were getting him to come over every few weeks so we were super grateful for his help. And finally we settled into the final layout of our bedroom with no more major changes. The morning light comes into the bedroom so nicely.🌞 The two DIY art that I spent a lot of effort on. Almost wanted to give up halfway through each project but I’m glad I didn’t. It was worth it in the end.🥹 Tip: don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, you might create a meaningful piece that you love in your home. This was made using styrofoam boards from my Shopee or TB hauls, together with paint and plaster. This was made using an old dried out packet of wet tissues that I soaked in plaster and paint. Current look of the bedroom. Oh how far we’ve come!🥹 Tip: Match your pillow cases and bedsheets. Adding some pillows and throw blankets will also help to make your bed more cosy and inviting. Have fun with it!😝 Entrance to our master bedroom is not spared from styling either.🤣 Some styling details of the left bedside table. The one on the right side. We keep out scented candles here and it has become a nightly routine to light them up. Really makes a difference it creating a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. A different bedding set hehe. Now, I have become obsessed with matching our bedding with throw pillows and throw blankets. I’ve also trained the husband to make the bed together every morning when we wake up and also to karate chop the throw pillows. Of course, he still complains that he has to remove 1 million things from the bed before he can sleep in his spot every night.😂 Thanks for scrolling to the end and following along on our journey of styling our bedroom!❤️ As usual, a photo of the fur babies in costume as reward for scrolling to the end.🤭 Till next time!👋🏻
