Hello! 👋 We are almost done with our reno and wanted to share all the little stories that happened along the way. No. 1 here is our biggest almost-reno regret.
We had a mini heart attack the moment we saw our cooker hood height 😅
For reference, we are 1.76 m and 1.66 m and for me, my eye level was touching the hood. My husb? His eyes could only see the top of the cooker hood HAHAHA 🤣
The space felt so cramped, like the hood was right in our face and we had to dodge it. And those two sharp edges on the sides? Super dangerous! I actually bumped my head (near my eye) at the corner while trying to close another casement door. HELPS
VERY IMPORTANT: Hood height isn’t just about standard measurements. It really needs to suit your height.
Luckily, we casually mentioned it to our ID one day and he kindly pushed it forward and suggested adjusting it a few days later after we had already forgotten about it 💯🙏 If he hadn’t told us, we probably would have just accepted it, not knowing it could be changed. Once we raised the hood higher (still within the recommended range), the space instantly felt visually so much better.
Little reminder for anyone renovating:
• Always stand at your hob and check the hood height properly. You are the one using it every day so it should feel comfortable.
• Double check on your manufacturer guide. Too low or too high can affect performance and warranty.
• Visit your site regularly. If something feels off, flag it early. Changes are easier (and cheaper!) during construction than after everything is done.
• Don’t be afraid to speak up. Most things can be adjusted, you just need to ask~
