If you ask me how I monitored the timeline, I had a whole Google calendar dedicated to our reno journey so we have clear visibility on what is happening when and when we need to head down.
Our ID does the timeline on WhatsApp but I did not like to keep referring to dates without knowing which day it is. Reason being we are both working and have to plan our leaves and wfh schedules around the timeline!
Recommend this so much!
As you saw in the summary above, our reno journey started almost 16 months before key collection.
In February 2023, we started to attend ID events and eventually met our ID at Qanvast after meeting 13 different IDs.
She ticked all the boxes:
Reasonable price
Understanding our needs
Willing to compromise and also to explain to us certain challenges
Communication style is something we can work with
The moment we signed with her, everything was done very quickly. We met to go through colour schemes and designs. What we wanted where.
Within the same month we had our 3D renders out (available for unlimited changes).
We also went shopping with our ID for fittings and lights and we aligned on what we wanted before the end of the year 2023.
What's left after is just to collect our keys!
Our ID gave us some time to enjoy the moment before she arrived with her electrician. We immediately had our electrical discussions on how many powerpoints and lights we wanted and where! Super efficient.
On top of that, later the same day, we arranged for our defects checker to arrive and he did a really quick job. We are lucky according to him that our project is done relatively well so no major defects!
You can see our kitchen littered with blue tapes!
Even with no major defects, BSC took about 3 weeks to complete the rectification. So remember to buffer time for that!
Once rectification has been completed we immediately handed over to our ID.
Within the first week these were done:
Dismantling sanitary fittings, also abit of hacking as we wanted to change our service yard window and door
Materials delivery (tiles and cement)
Electrical and Aircon piping
Plumbing works
We totally love the look but we weren't too sure why our ID tried to convince us not to! This curve is additional $480
On top of that, for week 5 we took a lot of time to discuss about our carpentry. Prior to this week, the husband and I already did a ppt on the carpentry and what we want to store where. This helped our ID visualise what kind of space we need and options that she can offer! That helped in a very productive session with her and we managed to confirm with her on the carpentry by the end of the week! Definitely buffer time for this as the carpenters can only measure after tiling has been complete and fabrication takes about 3 weeks!
Our glass was installed early! Our ID really know how to make us happy. This was supposed to be one of the last to be installed in the schedule!
We opted to layover the wall with kitkat tiles as our feature wall and we wanted to change the windows into a fixed panel + change the door to a sliding door to maximise space!
Our vinyls were done overnight in week 6. This picture was taken by the contractors at night and made me doubt our choice but when we saw it in person in the day it looked a lot better and we were satisfied 😌
Week 8-10 we slowly saw our carpentry going up!
There were some back and forth with the contractors with some parts of the carpentry needing rectification but by week 10 we had everything up!
At the end of week 11 we did our DIY limewash with Raffles Paint! We did a total of 3 coats and took us 2 nights. Finally happy with the results!
Exactly the next morning, Evergreen came to do our post reno cleaning to make our home sparkly clean and we can then start our move in!
Our curtains and appliances were installed too and its finally our home!
To give you an idea how long we took, we collected our keys on 24 June 2024 and moved in 29 September 2024. Exactly 3 months!
