Hey everyone! Be sure to check out our earlier post as this is a continuation! We want to share some of our lifesaving home purchases that our parents’ homes never had. These are small upgrades, but they make a huge difference in daily life and we highly recommend them!
Top pick #2: Having a Full Sized Dishwasher ! ✨
Dishwashers weren’t something we grew up with, and we weren’t sure if it would be worth it. There were always questions from our parents about whether the dishes would really get clean or if it would use too much water, but after using it, we have been pleasantly surprised by how much it has simplified our kitchen routine.
We went for a mid-tier Bosch Series 4, the one without the self-opening function. It works just as well as higher-end models. Some ladles or oddly shaped utensils trap some water here and there, but honestly, it is no biggie for us.
Originally, we thought about a smaller dishwasher and a smaller kitchen niche, but thankfully we didn’t. Cooking about five times a week, we completely underestimated how many pots, pans, and prep baskets we actually need. A bigger dishwasher has made daily life so much easier and there is this half load option, you don’t need to spam all your pots and pans into it!
We went with a free-standing dishwasher because if we ever need to repair or replace it, it will be way easier than trying to match the exact laminate. Plus, the colour kind of matches our Fujioh hood, so it still looks cohesive!
Of course, some care is still needed. It is important to use dishwasher friendly utensils and cookware, scrape off bones and leftovers and hand wash some non stick pans. We also use FINISH brand dishwasher detergent (pretty affordable) and we usually run the dishwasher before we sleep since it takes about four hours plus (new knowledge for us too after owning a dishwasher: it reuses the water, so in a way it is saving water too). Modern dishwashers are surprisingly more water and energy efficient than hand washing, using optimised cycles that can use significantly less water than washing every plate by hand.
My husband even finds it fun to load the dirty dishes into the dishwasher, like a magician putting them in, and then getting sparkling clean dishes out afterward haha 😂😂
Sometimes we just load it a bit more to re-wash some dishes, just to make it work harder!
Even with this small bit of manual work, it is more than good enough. We have reclaimed so much kitchen time, and about 99% of the dishes come out clean. Only on rare occasions do we need to wipe away a bit of stubborn dried food.
To be honest, our bar for satisfaction is pretty low hehe, this little convenience already feels amazing and we are grateful for it every day 💯
Stay tuned to our next best purchase 🤍
