Welcome to our kitchen tour! We didn’t really have a particular theme or concept when designing the kitchen, but we knew we wanted a clutter-free, open and airy space that was still highly functional for prepping food and cooking. In the end, our kitchen turned out to have an unintentionally modern farmhouse style vibe which we love so much. Anyways, here are some of the many features of our kitchen that we love:

First up, our cooking area - the hood & hob. We always knew we wanted a chimney style hood with a classic look and rudimentary features (ie no LED screen or buttons) that could just do the job with no fuss. Bertazzoni was the right choice for sure (loveee how simple yet classic it looks) and not to mention the brand logo on the hood adds an extra smth ✨ Oh and for the backsplash, we chose square tiles with random variations of white shades (love) with a darker grout colour to hide stains from cooking (this is a must - never choose white/light coloured grout for the kitchen backsplash!) Another feature I really wanted to have was floating shelves. Its abit short here as compared to above our laundry area, but just enough space for our matcha and alcohol collection~

and modest alcohol stash (minus wine in the fridge heh)

This is our laundry area + dreame robot vacuum station~ A separate washer and dryer is a must (don’t get the combined one). Also, do plan for the washer’s and dryer’s doors to open in opposite directions, respectively, so that you can transfer clothes over easily. Perhaps one thing we would have done would be to plan for a concealed corner for the robot vacuum station, but it’s okay, it hasn’t been too much of a hassle to have it here so far…

This is my personal favourite part of the kitchen. It functions as an extended dish-drying area and a mini plant corner, and the display shelves add colour and character to our otherwise neutral-coloured kitchen. We also keep often used seasonings up here for easy access when cooking. P.s. peep the cheeky pasta a friend got us from Italy 😛

Another view from the kitchen. Love how we are able to see the entire living room and dining area from here! For kitchen appliances, we went with a loose microwave and a classic looking Bertazzoni oven that ties in with the classic look of the hood. We hid the on/off buttons for these in the cabinet just above it for a clean look.

Storage planning in the kitchen is so so important. For example, do plan for where and how many deep drawers you need to store plates (standing up), based on your cooking workflow, and where to put the shallower drawers for cutlery, cooking tools, cups etc. Hidden drawers are nice too, for a cleaner look. For pans and other cooking appliances like the rice cooker, air fryer, pressure cookers etc., you might want to put those in cabinets instead of drawers (to save money and also bcos those might be too heavy to pull out).

Wanted to take a moment to talk about dead spaces in the kitchen. The space between the bomb shelter and fridge had pipes that we wanted to conceal. In the end, we were left with a very narrow storage cabinet that we wanted to turn into a pantry, but not spend $$ installing drawers.

The solution was these self-installed pull out trays from shopee. Highly recommend! Fuss free DIY “installation” (more like sticking the tracks on the shelves) and it fit perfectly too! Now we have a pantry corner that we use very often to put dry ingredients (dm us on IG for the link)
