I'll be sharing one major renovation regret and several reno wins in this post. I'm still in the midst of correcting the regret, but I thought it’d be better to share it with all of you sooner rather than later.
I have a wet market situation right outside, and I originally thought it would only get noisy around 5am which is fine by me. So, like most people, I installed a standard sliding window.
To my horror, the noise actually starts at 10pm every night. I totally regret choosing a sliding window.
My advice to anyone now: install a soundproof window no matter what.
You can always add sound if it’s too quiet — but if your window isn’t soundproof, there’s no way to take the noise away.
That is the only reno regret I have to share.
ps: the soundproof tape i tried is useless.
The wardrobe I’m using now is a $300+ one from Shopee. I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted my built-in wardrobe to be. Moving into a new space definitely comes with a shift in living habits. Just two weeks after moving in, my initial ideas for the wardrobe design had already changed multiple times.
I’m glad I gave myself some time instead of rushing into a built-in design that might not have suited me in the long run.
A couple of years down the road — when the budget allows and I have a much clearer idea of the design and layout — I’ll go for a proper built-in wardrobe.
Another renovation win was deciding to paint the ceiling the same colour as the walls. It made the entire space feel so cohesive and charming.
I was initially unsure if it would be too much, but it actually brought everything together in such a fun and intentional way. The matching tones gave the room a cosy, well-designed feel — and honestly, it just looks so cute!
If you’ve noticed, I don’t have a built-in cooker. There are so many simple recipes out there, and for someone like me — a self-declared lazy cook — I really don’t need two or more hobs.
Instead, I love the freedom I have now. My portable induction cooker goes wherever I need it: sometimes closer to the fridge, sometimes in the center of the counter, and other times near the sink. It’s super versatile and works perfectly for my everyday needs.
Another reno win? The LED strip lighting. It’s positioned in a way that doesn’t cast shadows while I’m prepping food, and at night, it doubles as a perfect soft glow for the kitchen — no harsh lights needed.
