Plan your lighting zones before your ID Finalises the ceiling. Once the ceiling is done, adding new circuit is expensive and disruptive. Decide early which areas you want independently controlled. Cove, downlights, console strip, curtain light, walkway. 
Ivent in dimmable circuits. Not all lights are dimmable by default. Specify this to your ID and eletrician. Dimming capability is what give you flexibility for different moods throughout the day. 
Use a system that supports saved scenes 
A smart lighting hub or system like VLUX lets you programme scenes - movie night, morning, welcome home - so one tap sets every light in the room at once. This is the feature you'll use every single day. 
Layer your lighting. 
Ceiling downlights alone feel flat. The combination of cove lighting + accent strips + ambient lamps created depth and warmth. Think in layers, not just overhead. 
Control from wall panel AND phone Having both options matters. The wall switch is for everyday use; the phone app is for fine-tuning and programming. Make sure your system supports both. Vendor we used: Vlux Lighting 🤍
