You come home, burnt out from the week work has made you. All you need right now is to kick back, relax and rest your eyes.
The last thing you’d want is to enter a brightly lit room, right?
Exactly.
Setting the mood with dim lighting will do just the trick! This could be easily achieved through the use of small lamps (placed sporadically around the house), or colour-changing light bulbs.
In our home, we follow one rule — never use the big light (a.k.a ceiling light), unless you really need to!
IKEA has a range of solar-powered lanterns (under the name SOLVINDEN) that are not only Eco-Friendly (major brownie points for this), but adds on to the ✨ aesthetics ✨ of your space.
We knew if we wanted to add a colour-changing light source, it has to be somewhere central; being able to cover a wide surface area.
Where else would that be if not the dining room?
Though it is still considered a “big light,” the colour you choose plays a huge role in softening the ambience.
We got our light bulb from IKEA (discontinued) and the lamp shade from Shopee.
Nabil is like a 🧛🏻; he LOATHES switching on any form of light, especially when it’s late into the night. This motion-sensor lamp is perfect as its gradual increase in brightness doesn’t blind you right off the 🦇 (pun intended).
It’s a good thing we found a dupe for this on Shopee for $17 because its RTP on a website was 48USD. 💀
∴ Tip: Try searching the object you want on Shopee first (using the “image search” tool) before you purchase from an external website to see if there’s a cheaper alternative!
🕯️ Candles are also another form of mood lighting. You’re basically killing 2 birds with 1 stone; having a light source that gives off an amazing scent! (Not forgetting the feature spotlight too of course)
Thankful to be gifted this Boy Smells candle from our ID!
Another 2 of IKEA’s SOLVINDEN lanterns with pretty prints that pass off as ceiling decor in the day!
We got the pendant version of the table lamp (from the living room) and placed it on the floor — because it’s a statement piece either way, and emits just the right amount of light from that spot!
A floor lamp for the guest room.
Gives them the option for when they’re not feeling the “big light.”
Having a table lamp while working/playing video games on your monitor keeps the room feeling warm and cosy.
But if you feel like it’s too harsh, you could minimise the brightness by facing it to the wall.
This, in our case, helps “shed a light” on our art pieces! 🤓🥁
The room that requires the least amount of lighting (imo), unless you’re into reading before bed. That said, sconces are a great alternative if you don’t have a bedside table. Managed to find a dupe for this on Shopee too!
In conclusion, I’ll leave you with words from @joshandmattdesign:
“At the end of the day, it’s your home and your choice.
But you should try to relax sometimes, you deserve it.”
‘Till the next one! ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ
