One thing that we were certain about in our home reno was to have an open kitchen in order to have a large living area / main space. However, we were naturally concerned that having an open kitchen meant sacrificing essential storage space.

Fortunately, our ID proposed a great idea that maximised the use of space. Our pantry area comprise of two sections. The first is a display kitchen + oven cabinet and coffee bar area, which is one of the first things that you see when you first enter our home. This cabinet also nicely doubles up as a partition, with a sliding fluted door separating off our “hidden” entryway + shoe cabinet, study & bomb shelter area.

We like that this coffee bar and kitchen + oven cabinet gives us extra space to store our glasswares, pantry items as well as our kitchen appliances. Our microwave is also hidden inside the cabinet for a neater look.

The second part of our pantry is an open shelving area, where we keep other dry pantry items. It is situated beside our kitchen island at the beam structure wall, which might otherwise have been an unused dead space.
