Maximising Style on a $45K Reno Budget💸 (Yes, It’s Possible!)

Since this is our first home, we wanted to keep things as budget-friendly as possible — without compromising on comfort or style. 🏡✨ Instead of built-ins or major reno works, we focused on letting furniture and decor do the heavy lifting. Here are a few thoughtful pieces we chose to invest in — small upgrades that made a big difference to how the space feels 🤎 
With our main door facing directly outdoors, we wanted something to create a bit of privacy as you enter the home. Our ID had the perfect solution — a custom shoe cabinet that not only provides storage, but also acts as a subtle visual blocker. We chose a limewash-effect laminate for the back panel, so it doubles as a clean backdrop for photo moments too 📸✨ Practical and pretty — just the way we like it 🤍 
One of the areas we decided to invest in was the kitchen carpentry — both top and bottom cabinets to maximise storage and functionality 🍽️✨ For the lower cabinets, we went with more drawers for easier access and better organisation. Instead of tiles or sintered stone, we chose a glass backsplash — much easier to clean (and perfect for everyday living!). A thoughtful touch from our ID: picking a glass colour that blends seamlessly with our wall tone. It’s the little details that make the space feel extra cohesive 🤍 
For the master bedroom, most of our budget went into the wardrobe — and it was worth every bit! We took our time planning out the shelving and rack layout, basing it on the types of clothes we actually own (and yes… I take up about 70% of the space 😅). We went with an L-shaped design that opens on both sides, which really helped maximise storage without making the room feel cramped. To tie everything together, we used the same limewash laminate as the entryway blocker — we just love the soft texture and feel of it 🤍 Simple, functional, and still in line with the rest of the home. 
We completely redid the common bathroom — mostly for hygiene reasons, but also because the original tiles just weren’t our style 🚿 We chose a textured beige tile to add some depth and warmth, rather than going with a flat, plain finish. All fixtures and accessories were replaced too, giving the space a clean, refreshed look that feels much more us 🤍 Simple upgrades, but they made such a big difference in how the space feels day-to-day. 
We gave the master bathroom a full makeover too — this time going for a darker, cozier vibe. To create a resort-like feel, we chose textured tiles in a deeper tone for more warmth and moodiness. One of our splurges here was the full-sized mirror, which also doubles up as hidden storage (because function matters!). And for consistency, we used the same laminate as our kitchen cabinets — tying the space back to the rest of the home. Definitely one of our favourite corners now ✨
