Our study was one of first sections of our home to be fully furnished and functional. It helped that there were no built-ins in this space, and we were free to experiment with a variety of layouts to suit our working preferences. 
I had initially wanted to place our desks side by side, so that there would not be anybody in the background during zoom calls. But my husband later decided that he wanted a 2m-long table, so we had to face opposite sides of the room! This still worked well in an unexpected way - there are now fewer distractions since we face away from each other when we’re both in the study. 
We went with half height shelves to maximise the wall space below the windows. We had way too many books, so we didn’t even try to make the shelves look minimalist! It took us a few rounds of trial and error to figure out a configuration that was both functional (how frequently we used the books) and aesthetic (how well they matched each other). To complete the warm look, we chose solid wood tabletops that matched the shade of our shelves. 
To save costs, we custom made and shipped in these slim frame fluted glass doors from overseas. The main downside was the long wait for the doors to arrive, but we otherwise have zero regrets! The fluted glass panels are great for letting light into the rest of the house, while allowing us a good degree of privacy while working. 
We love how the cream frames are almost an exact match with our wall colour! This was not planned, so we got really lucky. Scroll down to see what the study looked like before (upon handover) and after furnishing. Tell us what you think!
