We’ve all heard of the millennial grey - it’s easy to maintain and calming enough for a minimalist home. But it can make a room feel cold and harsh rather than cosy. So what can you do? When our contractor informed us that the old tiles were hollow, we took the opportunity to add a touch of cream to the kitchen using our tiles. The combination actually worked out well (phew) so adding a complementary warm colour definitely gave our kitchen some life. To keep our built in-cabinetry in good condition, we have built-in pull out drawers for our microwave oven and air-fryer so heat can dissipate easily! A 3-room resale kitchen often uses this side as a dining space but we decided to turn this into more storage and prep space since we cook pretty often in this house. Adding personalised touches help make your home cosy too! Mrs Gangsagem had a spare mini groot head (it’s actually a small pot for succulents) so we used it to house our wire dish scrubber since water can drain off too. Seeing Groot when they enter the kitchen is a highlight for our guests. Your fridge is your canvas, Picasso, so use it to personalise your home. You don’t need to have too many knick-knacks if you dislike clutter. Just some simple things to remind you that this home is your haven. We have two cat coasters from visiting the cat village in Taiwan for our honeymoon, and an Instax of us on our first holiday together. We opted for white rather than warm lights in our kitchen because safety first (in terms of chopping and food preparation). As you can see, the wall tiles on this side of the kitchen are different as they were the originals. We chose to keep the black backsplash as well to cut down costs. What we do love is our large enough granite sink and pull-out tap which blends perfectly well with the old cabinetry and countertop. Elements of white and cream keep the theme of minimalism in our kitchen seamless too! However, we must admit, the dark floor tiles from the previous owner which we kept do make the room just a little darker and seem less spacious. 😅 Perhaps that’s one regret we have. What about you?
