Welcome to our kitchen β the space in our home that is simple but functional for 2 homebodies who make homecooked meals often! We were fortunate to get a default open kitchen plan for our BTO. Here are some things we did to ensure we our kitchen is both minimal and at the same time functional for cooking and daily living: We made our kitchen an L-shaped one so we could place our fridge at the end closest to the dining area, which also meant it was at an angle and easier for us to then place the stove and sink to form a triangle. Having the fridge at the outermost part of the kitchen also means easy access for snacks or cold drinks. 2. No to dead spaces No to clutter π ββοΈ means ensuring we have ample storage space for all our needs. During our carpentry planning we told our ID to ensure there was minimal dead space. One area that usually becomes dead space is next to the built-in oven. Our ID helped us to install slim 2-tier drawers on both sides instead, which serve as our easy-access spice and oil racks while we cook on the stove above the oven. This kills 2 birds with 1 stone β ensuring thereβs no clutter on the countertop, and itβs also super convenient access for us while cooking! 3. Knocked down service yard for maximum space The default BTO layout included a service yard door and a separate area for laundry. To maximise our open kitchen even more, we knocked down the door and made our kitchen seamless to the service yard area! This also meant we could make countertop space on both sides of our kitchen, and we decided to place our water dispenser there, next to our dry pantry. While this may not seem like a practical choice to some, we havenβt had any issues with our laundry area being next to our cooking area since we donβt really do heavy cooking or deep frying. We also love how our house feels bigger now too without any barriers blocking the service yard area. 4. Space-saving furnishings We curated our kitchen furnishings in a way that would ensure the space remains clutter free. Among these include our induction stovetop and slim hood from Brandt which have a low footprint and look sleek for our minimal kitchen. Lastly, our sink from Zuhne has ridges that can nicely fit our chopping board, a drying rack and more β it serves as countertop storage without actually using our actual countertop hehe. We use the Neste V3 sink which sadly isnβt in production anymore, but Zuhne has many other similar and great space-saving sink choices available! And thatβs it for our simple but practical kitchen tour! We hope this gives you some ideas on how to plan for your kitchen space to maximise its use. :-)
