So you’re saddled with a dark living room that lacks natural light. What do you do? While many homes have a bright living room with sunlight streaming in, our home is the opposite. Corridor unit woes, anyone? For when you want a “feature” wall without the commitment… Without any of our overhead lighting turned on, we get strips of shadows cast on our wall when the sun’s rays stream in. To keep to our minimalist theme, our home does not contain any lamps so we rely on two sets of overhead lighting in the living room: a set of downlights for brightness and a set of false ceiling lights for a softer glow. With one set of lights on, our home appears cream. But turn both sets on and… … it glows white! Furniture is kept to a minimum in our rectangular living room to create more blank space. We use an Ikea Trofast for our shoe storage and an Ikea Besta for board games, cables and our wifi router. The lighter tones of the furniture help the room look more spacious as well. An empty space is perfect for hosting and playing board games with desks. Who says 3-room flats are too small to invite others over? Why are the walls so blank? In terms of our lifestyle, a television is unnecessary. However, we realised it helps make our living room look clean and large too since you step in and are surrounded by cream coloured walls. There’s nothing better than returning to a home after work which doesn’t overstimulate you but instead gives you a warm hug so you can unwind.
