Living with a curious dog, I was careful about my decor especially dangerous hazards he might trip on or might ingest accidentally. With a few small lifestyle tweaks, I managed to style my home in a way that still has personality as I really like cute decor such as flowers and paintings while keeping it safe for my dog. Here’s what worked for me:
1. Plan for higher shelves
During reno or while buying furniture, I made sure to include taller shelves and ledges. It gives me space to safely style plants, vases and diffusers which are all the things my dog loves to sniff (and eat) but shouldn’t reach.
2. Pick pet-safe decor
I go for crocheted plants instead of real or dried ones. They still brighten up the room and are totally safe. I also place budget-friendly art on lower walls and save the pricier stuff for higher spots.
3. Choose easy-clean furniture
My sofa is modular, with removable backrests and pet-friendly fabric. We customised the entire sofa in JB. It’s super easy to clean as crumbs and food can be easily removed from the crevices since my dog loves to lounge on the couch with us.
4. Hide the hazards
Cleaning supplies are stored inside toilet cabinets, and diffusers are put at higher spots. I also keep the ventilation fans turned on to manage the smell when my dog pees and poos in the toilet.
