Kitchen Organisation: Where Function Meets Flow
4193
In a compact kitchen, layout is everything. I reworked the arrangement to improve flow—shifting the water dispenser and daily-use appliances to more accessible spots without crowding the prep area. Recently, i addeed the IKEA's VALFARDAD dish drainer for more efficient. They tuck neatly beside the basin and is functional enough for everyday needs. Drawer inserts, jars, and baskets help keep the inside of our cabinets as tidy as the outside. It’s easier to cook when you know where everything is. The countertop plays a huge role here — I kept it as clear and open as possible to allow both prep space and visual breathing room. It’s finished in a soft matte texture that doesn’t show water marks easily, and reflects light gently to keep the kitchen feeling open. I added the IKEA SUNNERSTA rail shelf to hold cooking oils, condiments, and tools. Having these within arm's reach makes daily cooking so much smoother, and keeps the countertop clear. I also make a conscious effort to group items by use — so prepping, seasoning, and serving all flow in one continuous line. Optimising a small kitchen isn’t about squeezing in more. It’s about knowing what you really need and making space for that to shine. A few small tips I’ve found helpful: keep your countertop zones intentional — one for prep, one for drying, and one clear for flexibility. Use vertical space where possible, and don’t be afraid to edit what you own regularly. The less clutter, the more clarity — both visually and mentally.
