Sharing some of my kitchen layout planning considerations + organizational items as a Type A person!
I decided on a floating shelf for one side of our L-shaped kitchen layout, primarily not to avoid looking extremely cluttered with both sides having top hung cabinets and also allowing us open space for a nice display (but also practical uses)!
A small area in between the gas stove and sink for cooking essentials—cookware, frequently used condiments and a cute pasta shaped spoon rest ;)
No regrets on everything diatomite, including the sink tray mat, sink side caddy and holders. I personally find the wooden ones a breeding place for mold, while the stainless steel ones do still end up rusting. The matte and muted colours of the diatomite holders also fit most aesthetic well, so what’s not to like!
A dedicated bottom cabinet for plates & bowls, with slidable dish racks. I lived my life struggling to find that one single plate buried among stacks of plates (at my parents’ place), and I was just determined not to do that anymore.
2x large drawers for everything pots and pans! The IKEA OSTBIT plate holder is also great for storing pot lids, rubber pot holders/ oven mitts.
A spice rack adjacent to the gas stove, ensuring it’s still within reach while cooking but not directly below the stove. I find the average gas stove emits lots of heat to the surrounding and can easily damage or harden all of the condiments and spices if placed too near it.
Extendable utensil organizer and trays, as customised ones are quite pricey but disliking the idea of odd sized holders which don’t fit perfectly.
More organizer holders, the stainless steel is a plus as I simply don’t store wet items back into cabinets after washing. I had to work out different tray combinations to ensure the dimensions were going to fit my drawers and usage!
Pull out storage racks for all cleaning supplies and trash bags! I have a rectangular one and another irregular shaped one due to the water pipe layout under the sink. The one thing I struggled to find for mine is an under sink silicone mat (meant to catch water during leaks) as the common ones sold seem to be only in certain fixed dimensions, which would be too small for my cabinet.
Lots of shelf inserts for cabinets which maximises usable space and retaining accessibility. I do still have lots of unused space in the highest of cabinets simply cause I can’t reach them with my height 😆
Our tall unit with mostly storage and one open compartment for the convection oven. Our initial idea was to do the pull out pocket door for more appliances above the oven, but this was quickly dismissed as it didn’t make sense for my height; the pocket door compartment would end up being 180CM tall. It would be hilarious trying to cook rice at that height where I have zero visibility of.
