Welcome to the service yard edit :-)
To be honest I didn’t think I was going to post about this because the service yard isn’t particularly exciting to me. It is a very functional space for us.
I realised however that people have done really different things to their service yards, including turning it into part of their kitchen, turning it into a pet room etc. For us, we simply added windows and kept it purely for laundry.
We initially did not even want to add windows. However, we realised midway through during the reno process that the service yard can turn incredibly dirty, especially when it rains. We saw clumps of dust and dirt and we observed tons of bugs flocking in at night. We did not want our clean laundry drying in that kind of environment, so we boxed it up with windows.
The windows also kept our laundry machine dry and will improve its longevity.
Our drying rack is from goodliving, and it has heating and UV functions. To be honest it was a bit on the expensive side, and if we had known we were going to purchase a dehumidifier anyway, I don’t think we would have splurged on this.
What’s done is done however and I have no complaints, the drying rack works as it should.
We keep the service yard clutter free (as much as we can) as the drying rack sometimes needs to be extended so that we can dry our bedsheets and blankets :-)
