Hello all! I wanted to talk about our dining room today 🍽️
Doesn’t the dining set look super cohesive? Our table, chairs and bench are in the same shade of dark walnut, with elegant curves echoed through the design of each individual piece.
Really though, they are from different suppliers.
We took the time to procure our pieces. The first was the table, and we slowly sourced chairs and a bench to match.
Our table is from Dad’s Woods, a Malaysian carpentry firm.
We visited their showroom in Kuala Lumpur where we had the opportunity to look at the different types of wood, the slabs they had available, and various table leg designs.
This is what their KL showroom looked like. Isn’t it gorgeous?
To be honest, we were tempted by a lot of other pieces as well, but our main objective was to get our dining table sorted so we tried not to be distracted.
We eventually landed on a main piece made out of Merbau Wood (stained darker than its natural colour as we like darker shades of wood), and we chose a hollow circle design for one leg and a simple slab for the other leg.
The lead time was at least a couple of months. We weren’t in a rush though as our renovation was still ongoing. We only scheduled delivery after our renovation was complete.
Delivery day :-)
It took two people to install the legs and flip the table around. It is extremely, extremely heavy.
To this day I can’t move the table even with my entire body weight.
Today, it looks like this :-)
The bench we sourced from Taobao. We checked reviews obsessively, trying to make sure the colour match was accurate. It was also challenging to find a bench design that was not so basic.
This bench has curved edges instead of sharp corners, which gives it a more elegant silhouette. It echoes the oblong shape of our table and the circle legs.
The chairs were from Woodman. We saw that they were having a sale and went down to have a look. The colour of each of their chairs varies from batch to batch so we figured we could not just buy online. At the showroom, we saw two darker chairs in the same design (and discounted!) and suspected they might work for our dining room. We took a leap of faith and picked up those two chairs.
The rest is history :-)
